2006-2009 head unit upgrade

Has anyone found a good reliable upgrade for this type of unit that keeps all the functions that is not insanely expensive? What doesn't kill you is just bidding it's time.

The unit, when you go to the link, looks wrong. Does not have the surrounding buttons as in the chat. What doesn't kill you is just bidding it's time.

It retains the unit. It's what's on the screen that changes so you can toggle between the original and the new. It mirrors your phone. Check out the thread and the website.

Look at the installation video on the website https://www.navtool.com/land-rover-range-r...rplay.aspx John

Not sure I see that it does all the exiting functions. Also, doe this require an Apple phone? What doesn't kill you is just bidding it's time.

Did you go for this in the end? Does the mirroring function mean you can control the iPhone/android via the OEM touchscreen? Or else you need to be handling your phone when driving which is not allowed?

I had the Navtool on my 58 plate, works off the touchscreen for Apple car play and was a fantastic bit of kit and straightforward to install.

Wish they did one for the MY11

Audio

The unit looks good, but what bugs me a little is the audio side. Using the aux plug and no bluetooth connection. I’m not sure if the aux input is better or worse than Bluetooth. Any thoughts or advice?

Using AUX means it can be susceptible to interference or ground loop noises (if no sound is on, the stereo can pick up noise from grounds of other equipment e.g. humming, or a high pitched noise in line with the alternator).

Nothing to stop you connecting the 3.5mm to a mini Bluetooth adapter to get the audio this way instead however. This would only work on later cars with the dark grey infotainment system, as the light grey systems don't support Bluetooth audio streaming. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

That’s what I do. I have an excellent adapter that connects immediately, looks ok, and sounds ok too, but I struggle with the idea of the aux connection being old fashioned and susceptible to interference. I am surprised that there isn’t a device that is a Bluetooth receiver and has terminals also, that can replace the CD changer and use the MOST connection for sound to the head unit. My CD doesn’t work and I want rid of it, but if is removed, I break the MOST link.

My apple car play that works 100%

The aux connection will always be better than Bluetooth because it is a permanent wired connection. I think 3.5mm aux connections are underrated in terms of quality. I use this in my L322 out of preference from my CarPlay unit. No background hum.
Try it and see!
