Puddle light options.

Hello.

My puddle light bulbs have gone, looking to replace.

Thoughts on standard bulbs v LED bulbs v LED plug and play units?

Worry that the aftermarket LED units will be too bright, don’t mind the subtle glow of the originals but maybe a little brighter would be nice. Guess there is no soft-white LED option or a brighter standard bulb?!

Has anyone used these? https://www.halfords.com/motoring/bulbs/50...OmEALw_wcB

The puddle lights are Canbus monitored. When I tried Halfords 'error free' LED bulbs as my side lights in my old 3.6, it still threw an error on the dash so, they may do the same in the puddle lights.

This is the guide I wrote for all things LED:

I bought some off eBay with some little projector logos in them. Dead easy fit and look a bit different when you open the door. Think they projectors a white circle with Range Rover in it…. But it’s a while ago now. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Thanks.

GaryRR - out of interest what brand of led mirror puddle light units did you buy?

All the ones I have found look like the ones ‘powerful uk’ sell, I’m new to Land Rovers and not sure what to think of those guys…

After reading your guide I’m I right in thinking these should not be a problem once fitted?

(Sorry, just noted that these are interior only…)

May just stick to standard for now!

Generally they sell ok stuff but some of it is the same stuff available everywhere else with a massive markup on.

I would steer clear of the LED bulbs they sell - I've seen them on a Chinese wholesale site for 25p a bulb and they do not have good reviews.

Your best bet is Philips, Ring or Osram for non-Canbus. For Canbus monitored, you're best with retrofits - they're cheap enough to replace if they do fail. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

All LED bulbs say interior only because technically, LED bulbs in driving lamps designed for incandescent bulbs are an MOT failure. However driving lamps are regarded as headlights, brakes, indicators, side lights, main beam and reverse obviously.

They're fine to use in comfort lighting such as mirror puddles. But those bulbs linked aren't Canbus error free. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Let us know if they work OK, there are a lot of "error free" bulbs out there that don't live up to their name... Pete

The 'CANBus' bit is a misnomer as well, all the lamps have to do is to draw enough current to prevent the lamp failure monitoring in the control module from signalling a defect, so theoretically with the application of Ohm's law and a soldering iron, you could make your own 'error free' LED lights, I suspect most of the failures are due to relatively high power resistors being encapsulated in small packages with little chance of airflow to dissipate the heat generated, personally, I'd mount the dummy load resistors somewhere else in the circuit with a bit of space around them.

Decided that the LED options will be too bright for my needs, so plumped for these.
Should be brighter but not too bright! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/333738719530?mk...media=COPY
