Difference on the 5 litre petrol engines

I wonder if someone can give me the difference between a 5L V8 SV autobiography Dynamic and a 5L V8 autobiography ? I see that the SV has more power but I don’t think it is much. Which one would you go for ? Thanks

Hi,

I had a moment to spare, so after a few internet searches as well as a look on Autotrader, it would seem the Dynamic get's around another 40Hp (PS) over the non-Dynamic.

It depends a little on what year you're looking at, but a typical 2018 car is 525PS vs 565PS. Earlier cars are 510PS vs 550PS. There are other power figures about, they seemed to have to changed slightly some years, but generally it's around 40Hp difference. Let's face it... anything over 500Hp is more than adequate though! Smile

Don't know how the power lift on the Dynamic is achieved, but would assume it's done electronically in the ECU map, or could be a slightly smaller pulley is utilised on the Supercharger in combination with ECU changes.

I think the main difference I spotted between the Dynamic and non-Dynamic spec is in the styling details as well as the Dynamic having stiffer and lower suspension (it sits 8mm lower).

I found this 2017 press release which gives some insight:

https://media.landrover.com/news/2017/01/r...hy-dynamic

Hope this helps a little.

For what it's worth, if I was faced with this envious choice, I'd be going for the non-Dynamic spec. Every 8mm above the roof lines of other cars on a busy road count! Plus, my days of hurtling down B roads are long gone! Smile

Just been through the same scenario. Hell bent on getting an sv. Ended up buying a p525 ab. Wanted a cream interior and blue exterior but the sv seats are all black trimmed, not a good look.

I would go for the one I could afford with the best service history, then spend $2,000 on a remap from www.velocityap.com and have 605hp.

The engines are the same. The difference is software. Dan. πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ 2013 L405 5.0 SCV8

Thanks for info all. As I am trying to avoid too many oil changes - I should look into if there is more service requirements for the SC.

JLR oil change schedule has been the same on all the petrol engines I've had right from the BMW era. Once a year or 16k miles whichever comes sooner. Some prefer to do it more often, but that's not the official schedule. Its not like the oil burners with dilution issues etc. I no longer do the miles, but the car tells me when it wants to see Craig at the beginning of the year.

The black or two tone black and light interior were the std interior colours for SVAs, I have the light panels on mine. But I have seen others eg a Tan one in a green car; and a light one in a blue car but it was probably a horrendously priced option when new. As with the other models Black on Black seems to be the most common and least desirable from my perspective, but clearly most prefer it since that is how most of them are spec'd.

Thanks Mike for the information. In error when I bought the diesel RR I never thought their would be issues with short journeys as this never happened with my previous bmw. I think it was miss selling as the dealer knew I was retired and going to mostly short journeys. So that why I will try to ask questions on this great forum, before buying.

I've been monitoring soot build up in the DPF of our 2.0L XC90 and it rises *far* faster than it ever did in our 4.4TDV8. It can go up 6% in 14 miles of country road driving (our school run), which is a staggering amount. Luckily it also does a 120 mile return motorway run once a week when the wife goes into the office.

I never really gave short journeys a thought when we had our L322 4.4TDV8. It happily did the 7 mile school run and back twice a day with hardly any noticeable soot build up (monitored with my GAP IID).

I think the larger diesel engines are somewhat unstressed in comparison, and don't produce as much soot / smoke (pre-DPF) as say our 2.0L engined XC90 does. I'd conclude from monitoring soot build on both cars that the TDV8 is nowhere near as bad for incomplete active DPF regens & oil dilution as a typical smaller engined vehicle.

NB - Not sure if the DPF volume has anything to do with this, but I suspect it's just that the TDV8 with 313hp doesn't have to boost and fuel as much as a 2.0 does producing 235Hp!

If you are almost only doing short journeys might the P400 PHEV be suitable? Have a look at the Harry's Garage videos on that 405, which seemed to work well, and also economically for him (he does have his own charger which will make a big difference). It is what JLR recommend for people doing mainly short journeys, see the "which is right for you" guide on the LR UK website.

If you prefer the 5.0SC then I have not found 'only' 510 as opposed to 525 or 550/565 etc to be inadequate, in some situations more power can be inconvenient e.g. pulling away from a poorly surfaced steep hill junction, the traction control can intrude. Beyond that it is a case of driving the different possibilities and seeing what you prefer. Only Range Rovers since 1988

???

Oil change/service $350 CAD

New engine $25,000+ CAD

Why are you buying a Range Rover? It is going to require maintenance. Much more than you think. Oil changes are the cheapest thing.

I had three door latches go bad. $800 CAD, each.
Alternator went bad due to RH valve cover leak into it, $5,000 CAD.
Rear main seal, $1,500 CAD.
Brakes at all four corners with my labour, $1,500 CAD.
Engine mounts with my labour, $600 CAD.

Buy the best warranty you can or buy something else. Dan. πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ 2013 L405 5.0 SCV8
