i received a pm from dom with some more details,

Hi Stan
So the Plains trip is almost ready, we have plotted a couple of routes based on the military schedules. Stu will be doing a final reccy this week (once he finds his GPS unit for the laptop)
There is also the matter of a Christmas dinner afterwards. Will be around Salisbury somewhere and the numbers are almost finalised. 55 so far but a limited time for negotiating that number. If you want to ask all are welcome but I need numbers by thursday at the outside please. Cost not finalised but expect a standard restaurant christmas dinner, probably 20-30 quid per person at a guess.
Will report back with meeting time & place once we are 100% sure, so probably next weekend in reality.
Cheers
Dom.

so anyone who wants to luncheon please let dom know .. ... - .- -.

Oh, that'll likely be because Ian (Bodsy) is a committee member on disco3club.co.uk Stan. Well since I'm not, it should be OK for me to post it. The content of Bodsy's post was along the lines of:.....

Hi folks! Is a P38 driving reprobate from LandyZone allowed to tag along?Very Happy

They (the disco3 club) have a few reprobates of their own, so generally not a problem.

FF!!! If so its a bobtailed pickup TD5 auto and i'de love to try it for a day as its never seen more than a puddle since its build...

Bobtailed pickup (and the X5 that's coming Shocked Wink ) ss also not a problem, BUT if you are out to test your new toy & explore all it's capabilities by tearing up the countryside, then this trip isn't for you (or for us!) Please don't take offence by the comment, but it's more about the ethos of the people going than specifically which vehicle.

It's a family event, children will be there and there's a Christmas meal afterwards, for which booking is essential. I will take requests for the meal and relay to the organiser. No later than thursday of this week please. Name, number of seats required is sufficient.

So any vehicle, any people, any age from any forum. With the proviso's laid out above, this is not a serious winching/mudplugging/hardcore off road thing, just a nice day out on Salisbury Plains.

Dom.

Hi Guys,

Im Stu and i am organising this event, i hope Martin is ok with me posting on here as i am a committee member of the club. Im not 100% sure how this has happened as i dont recall any mention of you lot joining our event. Embarassed

However we're a friendly bunch so im hopeful we can sort it out. Ill have chat with the land ranger for their views, as this does increase our numbers somewhat.

Im doing the reccy this friday and hpe that i should get the live firing schedule for the 3rd Dec this week as well, so once i have all of the info i can confrm the route and start times.

Ive seen a few posts about the types of vehicles, and as Bodsy posted it is more about the ethos rather than the type of vehicle, if you want a nice family day out with a few interesting bits of driving, casual coffee stops (flasks are ok btw) a nice spot for lunch (or not depending on the weather) and some reasonable pub grub with other like minded families then this is for you, even if you do drive a ghastly ffrr or even worse an X5. Very Happy

If you want to drive like a loon and show off then this is not an event for you.

So far you've got 9 cars signed up as far as i can see, i will however need confirmed numbers for dinner, i think we might need a different pub as we are going to struggle with the one i have in mind.

Dom can you sort numbers and get back to me to save me juggling two forums especially as i dont think i am meant to post on here, even if i wasnt aware of it.

Also id like to confirm that a donation to the club would be welcome as the club members going will be paid up club members so it would be a little unfair for you guys to come along for free.i hope thats ok, but it is only a donation.

Thanks

Stu

OK, all those registered above have received a PM from me asking about their desire (or not) to stay for Christmas Dinner afterwards. Those who don't reply by the end of thursday will not have a place booked at the table.

For the one or two who asked about running down form the midlands, I will be traveling from Tamworth so we can arrange something if you send me a PM.

Any other questions chaps? NB I will report back what Stu produces for the final route including the start point where we all meet and the meet up time.

The sensible bits then.
Sensible footwear. You may have to get out in the odd muddy bit. Guaranteed if you're wearing moccasins Wink

Coat. At least have one in the boot.

Lunch is a sociable thing, not all sat in the car unless its pi55ing down, hence the coat.

Lunch. Packed lunch is fine as are garage sandwiches, assuming you can stomach them. Flask is sensible too. Note that us FFRR gents can get away with this. The Disco boys all seem to have a full kitchen in the boot somehow Very Happy Also note that there are no corner shops on Salisbury Plains, damned inconsiderate I know but there you have it. Very Happy

Road tyres are fine as are side steps. Wise to check pressures beforehand and ensure the spare is in good order too.

Ensure you have plenty of fuel for the day. Especially if you drive a Supercharged motor. Bow down

Thanks to all for making this event possible, The Disco3 Club for allowing us to attend, Stu for organising the routes etc and Martin for allowing us FFRR chaps to organise ourselves via this forum. Much appreciated.

Regards all.

Dom
