LCD milage display and odometer

The LCD display showing my milage and the trip count has spat the dummy. It looks like some of the crystals might be knackered and it is difficult to make out the numbers. Most likely be an MOT failure if the milage cannot be read. Anyone had experience of this and how large a job is it to change these modules.

Dead pixels are a common problem - the joints on the back of the circuit board where the cable is attached dry out and lift. The cables are basically glued on. There are DIY solutions available, but you will need a steady hand. Alternately, there are mobs out there that do reco and change over units.

I would imagine a search would turn up smething, otherwise I'm sure someone will chime in with some contact details.

Cheers - Gav

Depends how confident you are at doing it yourself.

The Ribbon kits are avaliable easily enough, and after watching a pro take mine out, getting the actual speedo out is easy enough, but when I read up on it, it seemed a little fiddly.

I didnt feel confident enough to do this myself so I got Rudi at http://www.bmwpixelfix.co.uk/ to fix mine for £100 although I paid slightly more as I got the speedo bulbs upgraded to white leds at the same time. Reformed

I did the MID radio display myself by replacing the ribbon cable. I dont think I have the guts to do the speedo, so I think I will be sending it to the place linked above.

Its a crap design common fault, but easily fixed. V8 or else ...
