Hi All,

Following on from the snowsocks thread in duckworths section and the spare bulb thread.....there will be from April a requirement to carry a breathaliser kit in all vehicles in France as far as I have been told this includes non French registered cars, not sure if the decree has been passed yet.....along with your hi-vis vest, warning triangle, first aid kit, fire extinguisher and anything else the government can think up . Also be aware that they are removing a lot of the warnings for speed cameras and adding new cameras, I suppose we could all stick to the limits

Whats wrong with going acros and then pulling over somewhere quiet and sticking number plates on with a russain flag/international marking and plate that looks very like your insurance documents??

That way if its just a gatso it won't come back to you??

I have to ask how many franch cars actually have all this crud in their boot as the old 2cv's and ax's and 4's n 5's i've seen over there didn't exactly look like they would spend more than the cars worth on safety cack?!?! FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

@Kingpleb....don't think i'd bother changing plates If you get flashed by a gatso you don't usually hear anything...I have been flashed a couple of times in the past and have heard nothing and I haven't heard of anyone who has, although they have been talking about cross-border tie-ins for years. The ones to look out for are the hidden ones...I have seen them hidden in trees with binoculars, hiding behind bushes, at exits to aires, unmarked cars with hidden cameras, hidden behind trees in cars with a small tripod set up and then usually a couple of miles down the road is a motorcycle gendarme who will pull you in to the nearest gendarmerie and fine you, so be careful when near a gendarmerie or within a few miles of a toll booth, you are usually ok between 12 and 2p.m. - lunchtime, although they are sometimes out in force just after this, and ok after 7p.m. Saturday and Sundays are particularly dodgy, I have heard they get overtime for these days so are out in force, If you do get fined,as long as you are just a little over, it is 45 euros and no points. They do seem to proliferate near the channel ports as I suppose they hope to catch people rushing for the ferries etc. I have also noticed that when there is anything going on at Le Mans there seems to be a lot of them out between Calais and Le Mans. I am NOT advocating anyone should speed but sometimes you lose concentration I am never in that much of a hurry.

As far as the French bothering to carry all the safety paraphernalia...I don't suppose they do but then again they are French and know what they can get away with, around by me they all have old van type things as they are mainly vineyards and I can't see them bothering but, saying that they all do carry the hi-vis vest over the seat and the old farmer, who has one of his fields next to me, sometimes pops in for a beer but he has actually turned down anything alcoholic when he has been going to his cousins for dinner....his cousin is a gendarme By the same token I have seen people falling out of bars and getting straight in their cars, same as anywhere in the world I should think.

Back to the point about Breathalisers..... Have just been reading about it and apparently it is due on 1st July just as the AA said.....if Little Nick gets back in ........did meet Carla once when she was going out with Eric Clapton....she was a stunner. it may not be passed as law, there is the Presidential elections in April and if a run-off also in May. Watch this space indeed.
