Remote Central Locking and Key Fob issues

Hi all

I have just had to fit a new battery to my 4.4 '54 plate everything now works and has re set clock steering date etc but i am now having to lock the car via the key also the boot release wont work. All the buttons on the remote flash but no action!. I was wondering I have done something wrong when replacing the battery but when the old one went flat the remote packed up when I jump started it and hasnt worked since.

I didnt want to change the battery in the fob as i thought I may have to re programme the remote and cant find the details on here how to do this

has anyone any ideas what maybe causing this could it be the battery in the remote or is it co incidence that both batteries have gone at the same time?

thanks in advance

reason i ask is that you should take the key out when dis/reconnecting the battery which you did..keeping the key in might have causeed your problem..

When my alternator packed in both keys needed recoding, but other times when I have disconnected the battery (one occasion for more than 2 hours) I haven't needed to recode the keys - go figure Idea

Thumbs Up

Not needed to change the battery in the remote, but I would imagine that this would not require a re-code as the key would still transmit on the same frequency?

Possibly someone better informed will be along to confirm/correct this later...

I've changed many batteries in many car remotes and have never had to reprogram the fob.

It's very possible your fob batteries just died. I've found that they tend to go suddenly and without warning.

I'm also guesing that the key is coded to the ignition? So a duff key won't activate the ignition even though the key fits? If this is the case, then you shouldn't be able to switch the engine on. I assume you can?

That said, I've never (yet) changed the batteries in a RR remote. Si. <This is my name.
