Dan,
Sorry to burden you with questions but I have an early 2007 with a heated steering wheel so I guess its a straightforward swap. However obviously I don't currently have paddles, i guess they just won't work.

very happy if you tell me I'm wrong Very Happy Geoff

Super, not the flappy paddle will not work on yours, they need an elaborate mod to do so.

Yep, fitted the same one to my 2004 and although I have not done the paddle mod it the wheel is a great upgrade and looks so much better than the stock black leather wheel that it came with. It is an easy switch, just reuse the old airbag. and tuck in the paddle cables safely. Tom

Here's mine. Can't recommend it highly enough, and I was an initial sceptic.

I fitted one recently to my 05 facelift.. Simple install, only thing is the heat connection was slightly different so wouldn't just plug in, solved by just snipping off bit of plastic on the connection.. Well worth the upgrade feels really smooth and looks great. The heat is now evenly distributed all over the wheel and doesn't scald.. Exclamation

STUPID QUESTION ALERT..........

Can you remove the paddles from the back of the wheel to make it standard looking?

Yes they can be removed easily... Most retrofit them to their existing steering wheel like i did... All you would need to do is either use your rear top black plastic cover (to replace the flappy paddle when removed) or order the silver one from Dan... You cant see the rear covers when fitted, so i would fit my old black ones if i wanted to remove the paddles...

Simply insert a flat head screwdriver and twist, the flappy paddle will unclip from the front cover and remove... Undo the little torx head screws holding the rear cover on the wheel first though!
