Ahem, clears throat and stands by to be shot down in flames........... the 4.2S/C engine was infact a sleeved down 4.4v8 - the RRS 4.4NA got the unsleeved version as did the D3 4.4. It was sleeved to preserve the longevity of the block/ head after supercharging - 4-5 of the RRS with a 4.4S/C escaped from LR's crusher and one of them lived up at the Dunkeld LRE for a while. Indeed, my Range Rover 40th Anniversary book states that the 4.2 is a sleeved version of the 4.4, and the valve timing is also fixed ie set and doesn't vary, on the Supercharged.....
