bonnet release cable removal?

Started what I thought was a quick job replacing the bonnet release cable (which has snapped the retaining "blob" at the end of the wire by the release handle by the pedals.)

Can't get the broken wire out of the mid-way holder!

1. how does the retaining "blob" at the other end in the engine compartment come out of the holder? Have got the holder open (see photo) but can't get the metal end out of the slide in part. have tried to twist it round to no avail.

2. It doesn't seem possible to merely slide the new wire through the sheath as some have suggested as the "blob" on the end of the wire is larger than the sheath width.
3. How does one get access to the firewall through which the new sheath has to come? what items need to be removed (if any) as it is extremely difficult to get a hand or arm down there.

Many thanks in advance. Thumbs Up

THanks Mark. Thumbs Up

Not seen this. Don't want to apply too much force in case I crack the connector housing. I'll have a go tomoorow if the rain holds off!
