Uma, my new TDV8

Here's a few photos of Uma.... so called cos thats the last three letters of the reg and my wife says she's both classy and too tall for me!! I think she's just sulking as I couldn't help laughing watching her attempt to get in... 4ft 11inches of fury by the time she was aboard. Laughing I havent yet told her about access height!

Picked the car up from a south coast dealer yesterday after looking for the right one for about 3 or 4 months, look in stunning condition paint wise and pre,tty good inside too although I want to give the leather the full clean and condition treatment. I really wanted Ivory and piano black and Kath wanted a black exterior and no privacy glass... that combination in good condition at the right price I think was what took a while to find.

The drive back from the S. Coast to the Welsh borders was absolutely sublime, within 30 minutes I'd got used to the car, within three hours I was grinning like an idiot! Why have I not bought one of these before??!!! Rolling Eyes Everything seems to work (for now!).

I do prefer the oe style supercharger grill and vents so they're on order along with some 808 blades as the wipers do thump a little as they change direction, and given the smooth nature of the car it seems a shame not to try to nail that one.... Clearly side steps are also going to have to be added sooner rather than later as well!! Oh and one of those piano black and leather steering wheels do look the mutts?! The there's the rubber mats and boot liner?! Costing me a fortune already!

also after reading another thread I've got a load of Meguiars stuff on order. I do like a bit of Sunday afternoon polishing so this one will get buffed within an inch of its life if it ever stops raining!

Not a totally great day tho.... the Touareg (dare I use that word here??) which has run like a Swiss watch for 3 years and 90,000 miles has decided that now is the right time to flash up an engine light just when I'm about to sell it!!! Big Cry

Finally stopped raining for about an hour today so I shot out to fit the new grilles that turned up in this mornings post. Glad I went for them as they IMHO lift the car that bit without losing the OE look.

Also gave me a chance to quickly hose off the worst of the dirt from the trip back from the south coast. This weekend coming will be the big polish and fettle weekend.

An after picture

Very nice...vents make a big difference.

I'm with you on the costing a fortune bit...I bought my car this weekend, but don't collect it until next. I've already done the colour coded mirror covers, vents, door handle covers then there's the side steps, dog guard, boot liner - the list goes on! This will be the longest week ever until you can collect it then!!!

I've had to discipline myself to stop buying bits for it! The dog liner for the boot had to go on order though. Dog was looking hopefully at the back seat but he's got no chance... Laughing

Definitely need some of the rubber mats. Friend had a Sport and they are superb quality items. I've spotted a couple of people flogging them on Ebay. Not sure if thats the best spot to get them? Lloyd Barnes

Very nice, excellent job cleaning it too.

Is it just my monitor, or does the interior look more parchment than ivory?

Either way, stunning car. Thumbs Up Researching my first Range Rover purchase

When I first saw the car the advert said cream interior, I thought it was parchment too from the dealers photos. Car came with the original purchase invoice with all the details though and it does say its ivory.

Its been sunny here in the Wales today so the cars been polished with the Meguiars 3 stage paint system as recommended elsewhere on this forum and looks great.

Also had the front brakes apart as they were squealing like mad but only when braking at very low speeds (ie traffic jam and coming to stop). Not very stately!! Assumed it would be pads not coppa slipped properly but wasn't. Discs are a bit worn and although pads look like they have a bit of meat left on them I want to change the lot.

Am hunting for a decent set of discs and pads on Ebay as we speak... Thumbs Up Lloyd Barnes

Lloyd... i came from Touareg to FFRR, so you are not alone....(who threw that!!)

i can only offer one bit of advice and this depends on how strong your scrupels are.

were you a member of the Touareg owners club? if so i would get on there, find someone with locally with VCDS and get them to diagnose the problem with the car, if it is nothing desperate, just reset the light.

if you can't find anyone, a basic VCDS will only cost a couple of hundred and you could reset the light yourself and then sell it on for the bulk of your money back, better than trying to sell a car with lights on dash!!

i got rid of my Touareg when after having it only three years and getting everything done at the stealers to keep it right and only covering 40K, the rear brakes started binding. by the time i noticed there was a problem, my recently changes rear pads were shot, along with my discs and calipers.. Evil or Very Mad

VW charged me £2k to place everything.. Shocked

one good thing about the FFRR most parts are reasonably priced and more readily avaiable than the VW

anyway, lovely car enjoy it.

BTW...even in access mode i think 4' 11" wife will struggle to get in the FFRR.. i think side steps are your next purchase.. Laughing Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

Hi Stu,

Good advice but isn't going to work unfortunately. I have a friend who has a VAGcom so we've put that on the Touareg and sadly it needed a new inlet manifold. Light comes back in almost instantly. Apparently this is a known fault on the 3.0TDi. Stealers wanted £800 for the part and more to fit it Shocked I have one on the way from Germany for 149 Euros and its looks easy enough to swap out so thats next weekends job. Then its on Ebay with it.

The VW was a good car but it never put a smile on my face like the Range is. As for the dealers... OMG. First service they replace the discs and pads (at 14k miles would you believe) and presented me with a bill for £1200... not happy Censored From then on, I used independents and the car was very good TBH. It went to the Nurburgring with a car trailer and Impreza on the back and sat at 90 happily on the autobahns.. I suspect the Range will be easily as good and more comfortable to boot.

Nope, access mode aint gonna cut it... I caught her looking at the little folding plastic steps the other day in Asda... Laughing Lloyd Barnes

oh well at least you are getting it sorted. i know what you mean, a very good car and i did enjoy owning it, very good off road too due to low box and diff locks. as you say didn't really float my boat though like the FFRR.

don't start me on the dealers either!!

once again glad you getting sorted and enjoy the RR.. Thumbs Up Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE
