strange (missing) button on the dashboard

I have wondered sometimes what is this extra space by the instrument cluster and now I have the confirmation something was meant to be there. Any ideas?

If your car was right hand drive the button in the picture would open the glove box. I think there is an error in the picture but I much prefer the fun replies above.
