Scotland 2005 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Oslo Blue

I've had a knock on the front suspension since buying my FFRR & recently replaced the front drop links, this smoothed things out on the open road but there is still a clunk when going over rough ground or speed humps. The drop links were certainly worn in particular at their top ends.
I've just completed a thorough check on the suspension & found that the front off side track road end is shot. I'll add a posting letting you know if this settles the noise down when I change that link.

When women say fine a mans in deep doodoo as fine has so many meanings.

If it was previous to a 2006 vehicle where they changed the transmission/engines - it could well be the front diff? Land Rover Addict

Cars back! Replaced Drop Links on both front corners and also the lower suspension arm.

It is handling much better than before and the "clunk" is certainly milder ... but it still there. Garage said they even took the car across to AJD Landrovers and they also had a check and everything at the front end is sound. There is a slight knock from the back which they suspect might be what I am hearing ... going to get the wife drive the car tonight and I'll hang out of the window and see if I can hear where its come from - front or back - however the noise is better!

if only garage had listended to me after the first post on here and changed the drop links then Smile

Just a thought....
Wondering if the engine mounts are weakening with age, they're hydraulic/vacuum operated.

The reason I'm thinking this, is that my hand was on the gear lever, and I could feel the knock through it, so the knock feels more body than suspension. Confused

Going to get underneath and see it I can see any obvious wear (metal to metal) on the engine mounts.

supension clunk

I noticed a clunk over rough ground for the last few weeks, turned out to be my bottle jack bumping about in the spare wheel well after tyres changed! Rolling Eyes

Also have a knocking emanating from OSF...

All suspension components and ball joints solid with no movement.

However, since allowing to develop everything is still tight, but I'm experiencing slight wheel wobble at about 70-80MPH when slight left steer applied; as if the OSF suspension strut has failed and is not dampening as it should.

Hoping to nail this first time around - both a good friend and I seem convinced that the air strut is at fault. Due a service and MOT in the next couple of weeks anyway, so will see what emerges on test (if anything) before changing.

Will keep you all in the loop.

Dan

I solved mine by ensuring that the compliance bushing (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RANGE-ROVER-L322...766wt_1139) bolt was loosened then tightened only when the wheel was on the ground and the suspension was at normal height. Often dealers during the front diff recall loosen and tighten the bolt when the vehicle is on a hoist, this caused the bushing to twist when the vehicle is lowered to normal height. This solved both my clunk and wobble (and associated tyre wear). Depending on the state of the bushing it may need to be replaced.

I had this problem, went to local independent yesterday they put it on ramp and it was obvious that the nearside ball joint was goosed, they even let me duck under and have a look, it rattled around just by jiggling the steering wheel - boy I wish I had one of those ramps.

Anyhow they fitted a new little arm thingy which has the ball joint on it while I waited, lots of hammering and banging, relieved me of £97 and it seems fine now.

Drivers side was OK - for the moment at least Laughing Geoff
