If you put the reg. numbers of some of the test mules into the DVLA website you will see that they are 5 litre petrol so it looks like it is here to stay for the time being. Besides all the lucrative markets in the world will demand a high performance petrol V8.

No, the N/A 5.0 V8 has been replaced by the new supercharged V6 (which has the bizarre still-a-V8 block)

Just a quick thought - I was under the impression that no one could use the 405 number as it is registered with Peugeot ! Porshe originally badged thier 911 as a 901 and Peugeot took them to court over it ! - as I said just a thought/observation

I wonder if the engine will be significantly different than the current one to improve economy?, with the much lighter weight over the L322 and a bit more power the new petrol variant could be Cayenne Turbo quick whilst keeping the FFRRs off road ability, a sure winner I would say.

It's just a model code, like L322. Not sure the flaky late '80s French vibe is what they want to channel.

Yes but the 5L Supercharged is here to stay with Jaguar and Range Rover, the naturally-aspirated V8 has been replaced by the V6 but I think it is unlikely the top of the range Supercharged model will be replaced by a V6.
