United Kingdom 2004 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Java Black
IPhone on Range Rover 2005 L322 Touch Screen Satnav

Morning,

I have searched and searched but cant seem to find the answer i need.

I am looking at 2004/2005 FFRR's and have seen a few with a phone cradle in the armrest. Could somebody let me know the best way to get my iPhone connected to the system. I would like to keep as OEM as possible, but of course have limited budget.

My three options are (I think)
1)find out a way of getting the iPhone integrated into the glove box cradle,
2)add an OEM Bluetooth unit ?
3)buy a parrot MKI9200 and not use the OEM system

Your help and experience would as always be greatly appreciated.

BL Very Happy

In case you are not aware, cars of that period were either

1) non touchscreen original cars,
2) original cars which were not full facelift cars, but had a touchscreen and upgraded hi-fi, or
3) full facelift cars, which also had the updated front.

The original non touchscreen cars had all BMW electronics in them. Talk on the forum about BMW ULF Bluetooth upgrades only work on the non touchscreen cars.

The later full facelift cars used a MOST Ford system, and had the touchscreen.

The ones in the middle however, with touchscreen but not the revised front, had a blend of Ford/Denso parts interfacing to BMW electronics, and its really difficult to upgrade these in any way.

I'd either go for an original car (non touchscreen) or make sure its a full facelift model.

Hope that makes sense.

I didn't know that when I was looking.

Obviously you may not be too bothered about OEM upgrade stuff, and be happy with a non full facelift with touchscreen.....

Thats my understanding of it.

There are a few on here who have added the iphone to the cradle in the car, but don't know what vintage of cars they were off hand.

Crikey !

No i didnt know that, the car i am looking at is a 2004/54 plate and the current owner said it has a touch screen system in it, so guessing it is going to be the most difficult variety to attach an iPhone. Typical me !

I will double check on Wednesday, is there any way from pictures of the interior to tell what model it is , are they different looking in any way ?

Thanks for the detailed reply ! very much appreciated Thumbs Up

This is the front of an original car ;

It will be non touchscreen, or have the Ford/Denso touchscreen mixed with BMW bits......

Here is the front of a full facelift car ;

The headlights cut into the grille, and the bumper has a step in it......

The interiors will look the same, other than the touchscreen, and the speaker grilles (as far as I can remember).

Non Touchscreen (BMW System)

Touchscreen ;

I'm only talking about the OEM stuff being a pain in the bum, with all of them, you can add third party kits.

Upgrades to digital TV and retaining the OEM buttons etc is also a pain on the car with the mix of electronics. Not even sure you can do it without a third party unit.

My car doesn't have a touchscreen, so others may have more knowledge on the specifics, I just know that interfacing to the factory equipment on the car with the mix of electronics is pretty hard to do.

Again, if you are happy to fit a Parrot kit, or perhaps another digital tv tuner in the boot with its own remote and extra aerials, they you can buy what car you like.

I'm glad I went non touchscreen, as I didn't want to pay that much more for a full facelift car.

Brilliant !

That is so useful.

So it is a facelift with a touch screen sat nav that i am going to look at.

Hopefully someone will be along soon to advise the best way.

Thanks so much for the helpful post

Yes, if the car you are looking at has the lights cutting into the grille and a step in the bumper, you should not have an issue.

It will have the Ford/Denso touchscreen and the later OEM bluetooth kits and hybrid TV tuners should work OK.

There is a chat about an iphone cradle here ;

http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic12042.html?highlight=iphone

Perhaps it will be easier to just put bluetooth in and use that, rather than have it in a cradle ?

Let us know how you get on with your purchase.

All the best. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

I know it's not in the cradle (which I have also) but on my 54 plate pre-facelift touchscreen, my iPhone 4s works brilliantly with the built in phone system. The touchscreen interfaces with the address book & I can even text from the car too (but not whilst moving so a bit pointless really!)

Stan, did you not post a link/image of an iPhone in the cradle? Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

Thanks so much everybody, so useful !

So what units would i need to achieve this set up ?

Would i be right in saying

The hybrid digital tv unit and
Bluetooth Receive Unit

These would replace the units in the boot and then the hey presto ?

Hi Mate

It sounds like you have exactly what i was thinking, full telephone integration with an iPhone 4s !

what system is in the boot to achieve this is it standard or an extra ?

I have a pre facelift 2005, but it has the complete touch screen system with Bluetooth.

But I had to upgrade my Bluetooth unit in order for it to work with my iPhone.

This is either by buying an expensive new one from the dealer or contacting Wiggs on here. He does an upgrade service on the Bluetooth module.

The digital tv module can be bought off EBay and then fitted DIY.
