Morning team
right so driving back from hols 400 miles to Dunkirk no problems 2 hours on the boat off at Dover just getting on M20 Bong Transmission fail safe warning and no fifth gear. turn off re start ok until fifth then same fault. stopped gave it 20 mins set off all fine until fifth then fault. limped home in fourth.
Have since found out it will drive as normally in Sport mode just faults in normal drive. until it faults I can manually change through all gears. filter and fluid changed last year level seems fine just thought fluid smelt a little burnt when I checked level. before it faults out car pulls well and transmission does'nt sound noisy
Its at the gearbox specialist for a diagnostic but anyone got any thoughts? worst case is £2.5k for a rebuild
(GM Box)
sounds similar to mine, normal mode failed to select reverse, then forward gears, sport was ok, a full rebuild did only cost £2080 inc vat at a local specialist
Seen that stan but how good is it? Bits can cost £7-800 alone. Quote is a worse case and includes a torque converter and oil cooler. Not sure what to do specialist i have gone to has a good reputation and is always busy (FF's in every time i go) should get half the cost back from Warranty direct should have taken option of company car.
Update, box stripped fifthlock up clutch??? and a internal seal
Specialist has got to send pictures and a report to warranty company I have to send copies of MOT service history and recovery
x
Everything sent to Warranty company pictures from specialist and all
Now they want to come and see the gearbox needed car back by Thursday not happening now
Another Update
Car back and seems to drive better than before but that might just be because its been in the garage for so long. Gearchange seemed a little clunky to start with but that also seems to have smoothed out over last couple of days. Garage said it should.
Bad news final bill was £3k!!! Filled in loads of paperwork for Warranty direct even had to get copy of invoice for last service despite having a stamped full service history hope the bad rep they have on the internet forums not all true or wount be getting a penny back. as is they only pay for labour and half the parts.
Hopefully to add some peace of mind whilst you wait, I had to claim on Warranty Direct for my rear diff and they paid out in full for what they said they would. Fingers crossed.
For my policy I had to get the garage to contact Warranty Direct prior to them doing any work. They approved the claim within two to three working days of the garage diagnosing the problem and asked for proof of service history etc. which I had left with the garage just in case.
The garage then did the work, I paid the garage then within three weeks had a cheque from Warranty Direct.
Yes thats what I have done although I asked garage to proceed anyway as needed car back so dont know if they actually approved. did they tell you they were paying up or just cheque in the post?
Ta
They will tell you there and then on the phone if they have agreed to pay out,
The first Friday I phoned the department said they had just got all the paperwork.
The following Friday it was being actioned and would be sent within 4 days or so
The third wed they said cheque was in the system to pay, that Sat the cheque arrived in the post.
