My first RR and its problems

Right where do I start, ive had my first RR about a month or so now and have a massive list of things that need sorting, most of which im slowly getting my head around, but I will post up on here my list and hopefully you guys can help me along Smile

* Inactive suspension - had it reset and it worked albeit a tad slow then went again, probably needs a new pump, it sits at normal height with no problems, cant hear any leaks so im gona say a pump issue, Ive got a habbit of wanting to strip / clean / rebuild anything I can before replacing just incase, how do I take it out / de-pressurise it?

*Slow gearchange, its had a box 20k ago so il just change the fluid or do a full flush

* Coolant leaks - stupidly paid £100 for a second hand rad only for it to be leaking in the same place, managed to get my money back and ordered a new one to be picked up wednesday, the Y shaped connector has one loose part which is leaking bad, when I strip it down im going to see if theres any O rings that need replacing in there, might just bodge it with a bead of tigerseal for now until I get a replacement.

* I appear to have brembos, were these an optional extra or have they been upgraded from the sc? Im gona need to replace them in the near future so need to know what discs and pads I have?

* My sunroof doesnt appear to have a home / closed position, I have to edge it down bit by bit to seal it? Is this normal?

* Need to replace my passenger side side light / indicator unit, best place?

Ive done a full service and apart from my gearbox all seems well, my plans are to keep it and get it as perfect as possible, I would love to do a facelift on the front end once the bank balance has calmed down
Any input welcome Smile

Welcome to the forum!

Sounds like you have your work cut out!! (That's the polite way of putting it!)

Suspension:
Have a good read around the forum on this, plenty of good stuff, either air compressor, air reservoir or airbag or a combination of these and other things

Radiator:
Once the new one is in, and you have all the pipework connected and sealed correctly, you should be OK. Otherwise replace with new the parts that aren't right. Suggest you leave the stat alone, it is meant to run at 105 degrees.

Brakes:
Don't think brembos were an option on the '02

Gearbox:
Take to a gearbox specialist. if it went in 20K ago, but they didn't change the torque convertor, that could be it, but take to people who know these things. Unless you know what you are doing, only change trans oil at the box.

Sidelight:
Ebay or not too expensive from most LR suppliers

Stormer:
Suggest replace - the repair will never be as good as new/newer

Sunroof:
Check again on forum there are some fixes about somewhere. No real experience as I don't have one (HSE Wink)

Good luck Smile .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember Wink

Ive contacted the company that did it, and for the cost of it he said it would have had a tc

Why do you suggest only changing the oil at the box? If I have debris in the fluid then in my eyes using the gearbox pump to cycle the fluid out completely is the best way? But also like I mentioned I have no slippage so im hoping on inspection of my sump pan it will be free from any glitter etc

You could always have a go at resetting the sunroof "computer".

Just press and hold the sunroof switch upwards (as if you were tilting the roof) for 10 or 15 seconds is it ? until the motor moves slightly.

Should reset the system.

You'll see what I mean when it does it......

The 22" inch wheels are prone to cracking and damage due to the weight of the car and low profile tyres.

Land Rover never fitted bigger than 20" to the L322's, and if it were me, thats the biggest I'd be putting on, and sticking with genuine Land Rover wheels.

I know a few on here are running 22's, and they do look nice, but the ride is like going from A to B on a plank.

Stormers were never put on the FFRR, only the RRSport had 20" Stormers, and they were only released for the First Edition Supercharged back in 2005. however they become super popular with RRS owners and everyone bought them, completely negating the exclusivity. Such is life. Rolling Eyes

Anyway, Land Rover has never fitted 22" wheels and as said above, there's many stories about build quality and fit for purpose on these aftermarket wheels. Unless they come from the like of Overfinch themselves I would avoid. (even then...)

You'll soon realise I like OEM spec stuff so for me I'd have those 22's off and flog them to some muppet in a RRS, probably from Birmingham and who says 'innit' a lot! Rolling with laughter Stick them on the Bay of E and get some OE LR 20s. Thumbs Up

That was one thing I thought of, theres not much room in there, I was planning to get another set for winter anyway so if im happy with the look il leave the smaller ones on, I must admit I do like the look of the 22"s Embarassed and just to add I dont say innit! lol
