Wow Dave. Sorry to hear this. Embarassed

As far as I am concerned, no one should be treated poorly when they call a business. This is simply poor practice.

Dave, PM sent. We will make sure you are taken care of.

I am going to go out on a limb here. I would normally shy away from discussions such as this because they don't tend to remain calm and objective - but this has become sort of my 'home' forum...

I can not speak for Britpart. They are our distribution partner and have always treated us fairly. I am not objective so take my opinion as you see fit.

After quite a bit of experince both as a consumer and supplier, I would like to say a couple of things about Britpart or the aftermarket auto parts industry in general:

Everyone I have ever met at Britpart has been freindly and dedicated. Dave's experience is unfortunate, but is in no way conform to any of my experiences in dealing with Britpart - even as an 'unknown'. They are big - there is bound to be a bit of attrition somewhere. Sorry Dave got caught in this.

I have used Britpart bits on and off on my Range Rovers starting with my first RRClassic 15 years ago. And yes, they certainly had some parts that left a bit to be desired. Others were just fine, tho, and quite a value when compared with original LR prices. I do know a couple of other things about the LR aftermarket parts industry and the aftermaket auto parts industry in general:
- competition is fierce. There is enormous pressure to top the other guy and this includes - above all - price.
- Britpart is and has been making a big push for quality. And many parts you can purchase from Britpart are sourced from... LR. Britpart is one of their largest customers. Other parts are sourced from the OEM suppliers.
- there are generally several levels of price=quality (not just LR bits but auto aftermarket). When I ordered hub seals for my RRC from one of the large LR part dealers 15 years ago, the nice lady on the phone said she had them at 1.95. This was about a 12th of the LRprice at the time - and while I scratched my head I ordered them. They came with only 1 lip rather than the OEM 3 and leaked before I left my drive. When I called back to complain I was told - oh we do have a better quality at 6.95. These were great and still only 1/4 of the LR price. I believe I've never replaced them since. But who was at fault here - the parts supplier or the dealer? I was mad at the dealer. It is possible that the supplier should never have offered the very cheap part in the first place, but then see bullet 1: competition is fierce. And, IIRC LR was offering swivel housing grease (rather than oil) for which the cheap seals would have been fine. It would be easy to blame either supplier or dealer - but this was just as much my mistake. If it is too good to be true, it is. I should have done more than simply scratch my head.

And finally (food for thought) I have read and heard a fair number of similar comments regarding LR as a brand since my fondness for LRs grew over the past 25 or so years... Is it all ship?

Britpart are wholesalers only and cannot deal directly with the general public. Perhaps this could be put across a bit better that what Dave was told. I have read numerous posts on numerous forums all slating Britpart for not helping them. Possibly people do not understand the difference between Wholesale & Retail!!!

A few years ago Britpart parts were shocking to say the least but now they are very good it appears they have made an effort at improving quality of the parts they supply.

Dave - GAP-Diagnostics are a fantastic company to deal with but I understand your reservations about dealing with Britpart (although from personal experience I have only had minor dealings with them)

If you still are having trouble getting hold of an IIDTool then give Dinedor Cross Garage ltd an email/call - I got my IIDTool from them and they were superb, they are an independent garage who have an account with Britpart and as such can get the IIDTool for you.

(I am not affiliated with above business in any way)

Don't let one company's poor customer relations put you off buying what is really a fantastic bit of kit - atleast if you do get one and you have issues in the future you can deal with GAP directly, and they will move heaven and earth to help you out.

No but I do get fed up with people always slagging them off. If you look them up they turn over over £55million a year so they cannot be that bad!!!!

^^^^^ personally i think it would be crazy to judge a company on its turnover....

dont mean there good or bad,,,
Lots of $hite companies have a high turnover,,
equally lots of quality companies have low turnover.. free use of "RSW" all comms to anyone nearby

I agree Hoppy but if they were as bad as people keep saying, surely they would be the smallest of the so called big 3?? Looking at companies house figures they turn over more than the other 2 put together and more!!!!
