i would check at the back first, look for water damage around the nav unit, check the blue and white plugs on the tv tuner, can cause the same prob,,, V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

Hi Dave, thanks for this , but which is the TV tuner ?.I have identified the GPS unit and the audio Amplifier.
I now thick the back light is ok on the screen as i can view the backlight under a blanket.

This car did have some water damage, but we have cleaned it all up.Is there a way we can test the monitor unit , before we buy a replacement.

It looks like this mate ;

Can't see the issue being the actual monitor. More likely to be the connections on the units in the boot.

Actual monitor failures are quite rare I believe.

I'd unplug the connections and make sure they are good, and then reconnect.......

Hi Mark,

Hi All, thanks for this valuable info , but after cleaning the connectors which looked fine , i still cant see any video on the monitor only what appears to be the back light turning on when viewed under a coat:).Getting back to the monitor there appears to be a small LED light in the middle of the unit that does not light up (we are not sure of its purpose and wondered if it was connected with the fault)?

thanks J

Sorry mate, a bit beyond my knowledge now..........you could have a seach on the BMW forums to see if anyones had a similar issue, as its all the same kit.

You would have thought there may be a test you can do from the front, by pressing certain buttons, like a test page, but I don't know of such a feature.

There is a video on youtube / powerful uk about how to get the unit out, if thats any use to you in the future........

Jules,
It's defo the box in the boot. Mine has done this as few times. Take the box out of it's holder, give it a tap or two and plug it back in. Works for me.

The photocell was "supposed to" adjust brightness but was disabled at some point because it just didn't work!

Mine doesn't (2002 model) work, tried finger over it or shining torch in the dark, no change..... .
