Polished Alloys

The Missus will be getting me new alloys for Christmas this year ( SHE RAN OUT OF IDEAS Laughing ) So my question is Gentlemen.

Recently another forum member Vogue sent me a link to LR'S website for Alloys, and i noticed the new 20" Polished Alloy Wheel that they are doing.

So i am swithering or not to get these wheels as i dont know if they would.

1/ Lose their appearance quickly
2/ Tarnish quite badly
3/ Or if accidentally kerbed, would they be repairable or would it be a case of buy a new wheel.
4/ Would the Missus be able to clean them properly, Rolling with laughter

Or could anyone recommend a brand of alloy for the FFRR.

Any thoughts would be appreciated or if anyone has purchased these wheels,

Hi Mick,

I have just bought a 2 yr old HSE with the alloys you are looking at fitted. They have already pitted on the surface to the point that I will be having them refurbished by the dealer as part of the sales deal. I would therefore be a little cautious before parting with a large pile of cash.

i will drop you a line and let you know the cost of the refurb if you wish ?

regards,
Adrian.

Thanks for the info Adrian, and if you could let me know the cost of refurbishing that would be great.

Hi Chaps i have literally just joined having been recommended it by a disco 3 driver. Anyway saw micks posting regarding polished alloys and try to look at the link to see the wheels but no joy. Which are the wheels you are talking about as i believe there are 2 New 20" 2009 Autobiography wheels - 1 is a 10 spoke Chrome and the others are the Diamond Cut. Is it one of these that you are looking at mick? Regards Adrian (a new different Adrian)

Most alloys can be refurb'd However steer away from Diamond cut as they are extremley hard to get sorted (for hard read expensive)

Thanks Mick that link worked fine. The reason for my interest in this is my current RR has 20" Supercharged we are great. However I also have a set of the 20" Chrome Polished 10 Spokes & also a 20" set of the New Diamond Cuts. My car is Silver and i have seen the 20" Chromes on a black car and they look fabulous however not seen them in the flesh on a silver car. My worry is that they are a chrome finish and what effect will brake dust and road salt and grime have on them. Also if i do kerb them (no matter how careful i am it is possible) they look impossible to just get one refurbed and will it match the others after. The Diamond Cuts look good in the box but i havent seen them on any car yet in the flesh. Cant make my mind up!! Stick with the supercharged which look great or make mine look like the new 2009 Autobiography car and if so which ones. But whatever i do i cant justify keeping all 3 sets!! Welcome your views!! What have you decided to do. Also i think on another post you discussed a bodykit. Did you get one in the end? Adrian

That was my main concern with the polished 20" chrome ones, ie : salt , brake dust , damage , and as Ken has said earlier in the thread Diamond Cuts will be expensive to refurb.

So for the meantime i will continue looking for Alloys that will fit a FFRR

As to the Bodykit, I have looked at Overfinch, Arden, Kahn, and Revere, but my Problem is i cannot get anyone up here to fit these kits, I have phoned a couple of LR Dealers bobyshops and they are not interested, I have also went down the other route of contacting the suppliers to see if they knew of any company up here that would fit them but alas no. Have searched the web for specialist bodyshops but they all seem to be down South.

Last resort will probably have to drive down and leave the car with them for the week.

Mick,

I recently had an away day with Land Rover ( see http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic206.html ) and the FFRR's all had the 20" V spoke design which I thought looked really really nice.

Have you thought about these instead?

They look nice, pity the dealerships up here dont carry stock of these wheels so that you can see them in the flesh so to speak rather than a picture

Hi Mick,

The wheels I mentioned in an earlier post are those in my avatar ( sorry but I do not know how to insert a full size pic into this post Confused ). They are still pre-refurb, but have not been seen in the flesh by the refurb company yet. From the earlier comments from others, it may be an interesting debate when I take the car into the dealer for the work doing Wink

By the way, they quoted £52 / wheel - Watch this space !!!

Adrian.

Great to see a pic of the 10 spokes - be great if you could download some bigger Pics - has anyone got any pics of a set on a silver car in the chrome, or in the least seen a set. Also any pics of the new diamond cut 20" autobiography's on a silver car would be great to see. I have seen the RR Corporate pics but i want to see some real pics on real cars. None of the local dealers have any and if so they are in black yet RR brochures and website show them in Silver but photoshopped etc so dont look real life, i think you will know what i mean!
