Well I took off the oil condensor (cyclone) today and it was completely blocked as you thought Rob Wink

I inspected all 4 hoses - top 2, 1 at bottom of cyclone, and the 4th at the back of the PCV valve assembly bolted to the back of the inlet manifold.

All 4 hoses have as some point been replaced. The only trouble is the 4th hose (red arrowed hose on attached drawing) is kinked, just before it goes into the back of the PCV valve assemble. It says in the RAVE that this is a drain hose. As you can see in the picture it links up with the drain hose at the bottom of the cyclone, before going into the crankcase...

Now do I order a new gasket for the PCV assembly, remove it to get at the 4th hose, and either replace the kinked (but still good) hose, or install an elbow to eliminate the kink? I would normaly do this if it was the only drain from the PCV, but it seems that the other drain from the bottom of the cyclone, goes to the same place, as you can see on the drawings. so I am tempted to leave it possible for the sake of ordering a gasket for the pcv. (thoughts/opinions?)

I placed a garden hose section of the the elbow arrowed green in the drawing and blew through it, and it blew through fairly easily. although this is not a great test, it has shown me that at lease there is no blockages there. I also connected the garden hose section to the metal pipe that connects to the bottom of the cyclone via a short rubber hose ( number 3, arrowed blue in drawing) and blew through that, and it was clear, as I could hear the oil bubbling away (dont worry im changing the oil after ive completed this job).

I am currently thinking the blocked cyclone (which I could not blow through or manage to clean with solvents) was the cause of the blockage, along with the kink in the 4th hose (called drain hose in RAVE).

I welcome peoples thought and opinions on this , and thanks to all who have contributed so far especially ROB.

Glad you found the problem. For simplicity I would replace the cyclone as its a sealed unit, and replace the drain pipes (6C342A & B) in your pics from rave. The hose 6759A is the inlet to the cyclone. The oil/vapour enters here and swerls round. The vapour comes out the top and oil drops out the bottom and runs back to the sump. This is the primary drain and the one that's blocked in your cyclone. The vapour comes out the top of the cyclone via 6759B and head to the PCV valve. The secondary drain 6C342B should only deal with a small amount of fluid but yours has been kinked plus the cyclone is blocked. This means you have probably had liquid carry over from the cyclone into the PCV then into the plenum. Is this has happened I would look into a new PCV as the oil might Censored up the diaphragm inside. This is only a guess though as he diaphragm might be rated to cope with the oil. As you have most of it apart I would personally change the lot. I did for peace of mind. Would be Sod's law it Censored up as soon as you have it all back together. [img]http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rob2529/range-rover[img/]

Hi Rob.

I've bitten the bullet and doing the lot. 4th hose whichhad the kink in is rock hard and Solid. Completely blocked. I've taken off the inlet manifold cover at the back. Does this contain the plenum, as this is the part I've ordered. ? Cheers MY2010 TDV8 Vogue Ipanema Sand

Looks like ill have to remove the metal pipe which connects the two small hoses to the sump. The smaller metal pipe of the two is blocked . MY2010 TDV8 Vogue Ipanema Sand

Can't help with the metal pipes as I didn't need to do mine. You could always push some welding rod down to try and clear???? The PCV is LKR000040. You will need LKJ000060 gasket as well. I ordered and replaced all the orings and rubbers on that as well. But I'm sure some came with the PCV, but can't remember. I ordered the lot as the rubbers were only a few pence and didn't want to Censored it up while it was all off. (hR1, 9439a and HR2)

I've just re-read my other topic and I didn't use the rubber seals as they were already with the PCV valve. [img]http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rob2529/range-rover[img/]

I managed to unblock the metal 2 metal pipes that are connected via a banjo bolt to the sump - here is how I done it.

Removed the pipe by undoing the banjo bolt attached to the sump, (the top fixing of the pipe(s) was already undone as it picks up on the coolant manifold, which I have already off.) I then maovered it out of the bottom of the engine.

I then used a air compressor which i fitted to the end of the narrow pipe (the blocked one) using a bit of the old discarded hosing and a couple of small jubilee clips, whilst at the same time warming the pipe with a blow torch. all of the gunk soon came out. I then refitted the whole lot from the top of the engine.

When I pick up my new PCV and 4th hose tommorrow I am confident all will be well.

Top man Rob for advice. Thumbs Up

p.s. for anyone else doing this, I had to drain the engine oil before removing the metal drain pipes with the banjo at the end.

Now hopefully tommorrow when its all back together it will start! Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter MY2010 TDV8 Vogue Ipanema Sand
