To swap or not?

Chaps,

At the mo i have my 20" wheels off Dan on, with michelin lattitudes, good tread left,

In the garage i have the original 19" with wranglers on, pretty much new tyres.

The plan was to swap to the 19" for winter as the wranglers "look" a bit better suited to winter roads im terms of tread

What do people think. Is it worth the effort? Has anyone used either the miches or wranglers in winter? I dont want to buy tyres this year as both sets are pretty new so was going to wear one of these out first then swap that set to wintracs. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ˜œ

Same situation - set of 19" in the garage with M+S tyres on...... Think this year I will leave the 20" wheels on as the tread is good. Bring on the snow. "On first name terms with my local Dealer......now."

I keep looking at them thinking i should be using them. Pile of money sitting there and all.

Might give the 20" a chance this year as mr t says his wranglers not up to much in the snow. The 19" are stacked neatly in the dark so will keep another year....or until i get round to selling them. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ˜œ

Are the wranglers M&S (mud and snow)? If so I drove from uk to Austria through the snow storm in dec 2010 and was one of the few cars to make it through. They were fine, even at 70mph on packed snow! They were 18" though.

Yes they are, and they have some sipes cut into the tread blocks so seem a bit more snow oriented than the lattitudes which are also m+s rated, but are only classed as a summer tyre.

Aargh the choices...... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ˜œ

Keep 'em. Use them til they need changing and then get a set of Vreds on 'em. Thumbs Up

As i have to have the wheels off this week to do the pads, seems an opportune time to swap.

Going to need to get them re balanced as one of the weights has come off, i will get them to use sticky weights next time. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ˜œ

LR always seem to demo their off-roadness with road tyres to prove a point. Have to agree with them. When we had all that snow a few years ago down south, I was quite happy banging around on my Nexen 20"s in 2ft snow drifts, and felt pretty confident on the packed snow too.

Winter tyres are usually sold on the basis that they operate better at lower temperatures. The LR dealers are running a winter promo at the moment, and their online info says that "summer" or normal tyres take much longer to stop you under 7บ C because they go hard. .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember Wink
