Suspension Air Compressor failure 2005 => ON

Well my MY05 compressor has failed.

The motor didn't seem to fire up, a bit like others i got ' SUSPENSION INACTIVE ' after I got ' VEHICLE LIFTING SLOWLY ' about 30 seconds after startup the suspension lights would go out.

Nothing could be heard from the motor when checking so i whipped it out.
4 Screws, lid off,
4 Screws, Base comes away from body,
1 Pipe comes off, 1 screw in from the pressure valve or can take the push fit part off from the motor unit.

Here are the pictures after i stripped the piston out...

Now I've never seen this before on here or on tinterwebs so i can only conclude it was a manufacturing defect that has caused this..

tis a bit of a cra99er as its the later type and the other bits are all good so will likely be keept as a spares unit but knowing my luck the next one would be the same!

Off to find one that will work now so fingers crossed they aren't super silly money for an OEM one.

It would be nice if i could get a machine shop to make the con rod out of a light aluminium as i think its plastic or a very cheap metal alloy.

Installing a secondary smaller cheap sourced compressor to kick in at the same time as the current one could be a way to elongate life and there is plenty of space in the boot to mount something small and plumb it in. Even my tyre one could fit in a corner and be connected up Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

I know Joe Sad Prices for the motor section alone are silly!

I think I'll try the machine shop route in the meantime Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Im sure a good machinist or someone with a cnc could make one for less than the cost of a replacement compressor... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

No way! There is a chunk missing as well I think, cleaned the lot out now and the motor housing as there was a lot of metal dust in there which is expected with a low quality electric motor over the long term Sad cleaned all the other bits as well now so all clean an the piston sleeve isn't too worn, its much larger than the older style one and I think the motor is a bit bigger as well. The photos of the older ones from the outside look smaller as well.

I found a local bronze cnc specialist. Would this material be suitable at all?? FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Well this morning on its only journey SINCE i removed the unit after a few dips in the road the rear finally sank onto the bump stops Big Cry

this highlighted the issue of the rear esxhaust hangers being week and bending out of shap and allowing the rear box to drop. So a quick pull over, bend back a bit and re-hang was in order.

Now the used but warranted compressor has been delivered i'll be off out to fit it this evening before going home and see if the fault clears after a battery purge on the thing if i doesn't do it automatically(i have hope!)

Failing that i may pop by the bodyshop that did the work after the knock a few months back and see if their snap on can clear it for a few beer tokens Smile or the promise of future work Wink though i think they know for insurance work i will only trust them with it as LR approved Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

I must be the most unlucky person who turns out lucky in the end!

Fitted used part from Disco breakers.com and plugged in, loosely mounted and as soon as i kick the engine over it comes into life!!

Its a bit slow to raise but i think its building pressure up in the tank which has been depleted totally so a few minutes driving should have it topped up.

No fault codes other than car slow to raise so will maybe look at the piston part and see what its like but its likely its me thats not got a supply or pressure pipe back on right or tight enough so will check them out first Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
