At least when the insurance write it off and pay you out you will only need to put a few grand to a L405  ====================================

I am unfortunately old enough to have seen the positive changes in safety attitude from the "gung-ho just get the job done" attitude to todays ALARP (As Low As Reasonably Practical). I feel the "current" way of thinking about safety should permeate into all industries and daily life (and I am well aware it isn't yet).

The Piper Alpha is quite some time ago but is used in our current training (as it started the big HSE push in the UK sector that then started rolling into the other sectors) and the Transocean Horizon BP Makondo disaster proves that we are still not there in the O&G. Plus that in the "newer" areas (read Africa) it is very hard to get ALL stakeholders including the IOCs to work to ALARP etc.

Still I believe that the key to keeping people alive and uninjured and no damage to equipment is training and awareness. And that should be in any industry. Now this incident has not hurt anyone (apart from pride and confidence of your boy) it is still a major incident cost wise (cost relative to your turnover/profit) and therefore a major incident, plus the risk of injury and death (imagine you would have been standing there, calling someone, not hearing it and he banged into you and the FFRR).

Years of safety training (again, I am an old fart having been in the industry since 1986) have made me see and realize how horribly easy it is damage, hurt or kill.

So please have a good look around the business and address it all, probably good to hire a HSE specialist with experience in your line of work, and let him/her help you make the business safer. The cost will be far far less than what a major incident with injury or death will cost you.

One of the things that we (senior management) got shown is the staggering cost of incidents in our industry. The focus on cutting cost and going faster which is ingrained in our line of work (very expensive spreads in the field) are easily offset against the cost of even minor incidents. By looking at it from that angle, you start to realize the direct, indirect and long term cost, once that sinks in it makes sense.

Also by working with strict procedures and preparing well for jobs, the job actually goes faster and smoother than not doing it that way. So actually it could be cheaper in "normal" production work as well to work very safely and structured.

Is it not possible to cut out the C pillar and weld a new one in????.... This is probably the best car RR I've ever had and would be pretty gutted if it was written off.

@Mick...still don't think the L405 is worth the money

I use a tiny forklift once a month, it's amazing how strong they are, built like tanks..

Hope the insurance company don't mess around

It also looks like top tailgate has pushed into the D pillar the other side.
It could be that the whole body has twisted.

It don't look good to me. At least if the insurance call it a total loss you will be paid out in a couple of weeks.

I'd be looking for a new one.

Oops wouldn't have thought they would write off a 2011 tdv8 for that though. it dont look too bad from the photos. the roof doesnt look like it is pulled down so would prob just need a pillar, rear quarter, top tailgate and the windows and some interior panels. if they do write it off, you should try buy it back and get it repaired yourself. you will end up with a very cheap range rover. '04 td6 se
