Mick,

I bought one last October, the latest 3rd generation 64GB.

Its good fun to use, bags of capacity of course, never had an ipod/iphone like this so it was all new to me. Like the fact it connects to wifi so I can get emails, surf the web etc, but of course you have to be in a wifi zone and sometimes it drops the connection.

Having had it, I can see why the iphone is liked, not just for apps but for connectability anywhere.

Good to know I am keeping up with the 11year olds.... Embarassed Discovery 4 HSE

the biggest difference in generations (except for the memory) is the ability to jailbreak devices! It depends how capable is your 11 old daughter, but I've seen 12 or 13 years old doing the jailbreak themselves Cool

I'd say you don't go for the latest model, even though it is nicer, you could go for a second generation 8 or 16 GB (even used), so you don't regret spending that much on something your daughter could break in 2 days Very Happy

P.S. (jailbreak, if you don't know is something every iphone/ipod touch should have) I speak from my personal experience, every iphone/ipod touch without it is junk... Whistle )

Our 10 yr old got a 64GB for Christmas and loves it. We deliberately chose not to get the IPhone as we didn't like the thought of her spending hours talking on it or taking it to school.

We've got a WiFi through the house so she can surf / send e-mails and play on apps. She is also hooked into my itunes account which is quite handy because it sends me receipts if she buys an app or a music track. Wink

64GB is useful for keeping movies on...

then you can search ebay for an older model the second generation ipod touch, but brand new! I guess that loads of them are still in ebay! The box is the same! The iPod is the (almost) the same... 2nd and 3rd gen ipods look identical and it will cost you less! 2000 BMW M5, Avus Blue/LeMans Leather Interior

Why is that then? I did mine last year and couldn't see any benefit. In fact, it slowed down so much, I ended up unjailbreaking it! 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

Homebrews, emulators, themes, plugins, other illegal stuff I'm not authorized to discuss here Whistle which make it impossible not to jailbreak! PM me if you need some advices...
