Hardcore off road, extreme snow/ice or drag racing |

I did, on the advice of my brother-in-law who used to design F1 cars. He reckoned it was a worthwhile enhancement for on road driving. Obviously I can't identify any benefit/intervention in day to day driving but I feel happier knowing it is there (and it was a tiny percentage of the overall vehicle cost). |

Plus, I should add, used on F1 cars which rarely go off road |

I have seen mine locking when towing the caravan through muddy sites.

That's covered in my drag race comment - used as part of launch control. |

Why would you think that? On the road it should tighten the line under power. |

Is it variable or limited slip in a way that the standard diff isn't ?

It's a computer-controlled variable LSD - the locking/pre-loading is done by an electric motor. |

I can see the point of having a LSD in a performance car to aid traction out of corners and off the line etc. but I don't really plan to be power sliding my Range Rover or doing drag starts and my off road driving is limited to parking in fields so I think I will give this option a miss.

In the general scheme of things and the way the weather is in this country I personally would plump for it but leaf not forget the self parking is then lost... But that's due to change this year or next iirc |

The active Diff also worked with the torque vectoring when cornering in the wet which gives more stability and of course more grip. Far to many gone... |
