Stratstone Service Plan

Hi,

Noticed at the local Stratstone dealership the other week that they had a sign up saying they did some form of service plan for about £24/month (which does not seem a lot).

Has anyone any experience of this from a value for money/ good idea perspective (particularly those with LR approved warranties)?

Their website says:

" Service Plans offer you a simple way to regulate your payments to cover all your scheduled servicing over two, three or four years with Labour and Parts charges frozen at today's prices. Your vehicle will be maintained to the highest standards by manufacturer trained technicians using Land Rover Genuine Parts.

Additional Benefits include:

Flexible - Tailored to suit your driving patterns, based on your mileage and the number of scheduled services.
Convenient - Monthly installments take away any concerns with your invoice on the day.
Inflation proof - Pay a fixed monthly rate and you'll be insulated from any inflation of parts and labour prices. "

Thanks...

If you multiply £24 over 36 months the total is £864.

On average your car needs an annual service and if you shop around at the Dealers you can get an oil service for £300 or less, so it sort of makes sense but the catch is that you're locked in and have no freedom of choice afterwards.

I don't like being locked into any sort of pay monthly deal, that's why I didn't bother with any extended or after market warranty, I'd rather keep the cash and then spend it as and when I need to. Discovery 4 HSE

Thanks for the reply.

I wasn't aware it was a locked in 3 year plan (so basically you would be getting a service 'on credit' during that period perhaps?).

I suppose for some it's just a structured way of managing your own car maintenance money with the benefit of getting inflation proof rates and being almost guaranteed to get main dealer services at competitive/ marginally cheaper rates. Doesn't sound like a bad plan based on what you say. Each to their own I suppose... and maybe a commitment to a dealership/ that wee bit of 'loyalty' might go in your favour if problems arise during the relvant period (maybe).

As for the warranty, again, each to their own, but having had an LR warranty every year since 2006, the ones we have bought have more than paid for themselves. Last year we paid about £670 for an extended LR warranty and during the 12 months had almost £3k of warranty work done (and we had significant warranty work done during the other years too).

Thumbs Up
