Hello,

As my wife was about to set off for work this morning she asked me if the engine was racing (the car was parked on the driveway).

It was noteworthy as you normally can't hear anything when the car is idling and it sounded rough, almost like the engine was burbling on tick over (a bit like one of those American mean machine type films when throttles are being blipped just before the car is launched forward into a race). It also had a sound I would normally associate with a hole in a rear exhaust but all of the noise was coming from the engine bay.

I did wonder when driving it under acceleration last night if there was a slight loss of power.

Also, an LR technician came to the house on 18 June and fitted a new battery and I wonder if that might have upset anything.

There are no warning lights on.

Any helpful thoughts would be appreciated because ironically, the excellent Service Manager from the local Main Dealer has just E-mailed me after the new battery fitting to find out how the car is running and I'm due to reply to him

It does Si, most days, only about 10 miles covered.

It's definitely gone notably louder 'overnight'.. it's also 9 years since we had a more powerful engined petrol car too (they've all been diesels since)... so maybe its all just 'new' to us.

It sounds like you may have a fuel issue, i.e. dirty fuel or water in the fuel. Mine is super smooth (granted I had the entire fuel delivery system changed thanks to a cheap fuel pump on Ebay) following a complete clean of the fuel tank, fuel system and inlet tract.

Is your tank near 1/4 full ?? If so you may have the tank balance issue and better fuel up quickly before you are stranded with enough fuel in the tank but it can't get to the pump  MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Hi, the fuel tank was on 1/4 this morning when the symptoms were present.

The point you make about super smooth is pretty much where I was coming from with the OP... We couldn't believe how quiet this car ticks over and that is why this change is noteable.

Aside to filling up, what next (if you have any thoughts please)?

If it is the famous 1/4 tank issue, then the dealer will have to sort it out. And the fuel pump at "normal" price is quite "stiff", in the 300+ range !!. Mine was 50 thanks to Will spotting it on Ebay  MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Seems to only really effect Supercharged models...

Happened to me at the very top of the Woodhead Pass

Possibly due to the higher fuel flow required but the TD6's have had the odd one fail as well in this way as its the balancing part that burgers up!

The car last night felt slightly underpowered but did not 'lose' power as such, it just didn't feel as though it was drawing from all of it's power under brisk accelaration (it had half a tank of fuel in at that time).

Since getting the car 2 months ago (as it's been 'off the road'/ in the garage for repairs so much due to the 'issues') we've barely done 1000 miles and I think we've only needed to fill the tank about 3 or 4 times to date). As mentioned to Bellini, it has only done short journey's/ hasn't had 'a proper run' for about 3 weeks.

Glad I raised the issue and once again this forum proves its worth a weight in gold

The car has the LR approved used warranty which covers the following:
" Fuel System: Failure of the following parts: Fuel injection systems (excluding Injectors), fuel lift pump, cold start device, tank sender unit, fuel gauge and fuel ECU. But excluding pipes and damage caused by contamination and/or inappropriate fuel. "

I think anyone who has put up with my posts will have grasped by now that I try to be very careful about looking after cars and one thing's for sure, I've not misused it, contaminated anything or used inappropriate fuel.

I'll E-mail the Service Manager, report what has cropped up (in response to his question to me) and will ensure the car gets a good run this weekend/ will monitor it's behaviour/ symptoms.

Sometimes when you start it the viscous fan can be partly engaged and give the effect of the engine racing, mine does this quite often, it's nothing to worry about - my guess is this is what you / your wife has noticed. Stolen / Gone: 2006MY Supercharged LPG Autobiography - Zambezi Silver with Sand/Jet/Jet Oxford Leather.....

Not at all, the viscous fan on the SC is controlled by the ECU, there is a technical service bulletin about this very fact....I know for a fact that I experience this situation at some start ups hence how I know about it....this is highly unlikely to be a fuel pump issue....that will bring up reduced performance and the EML light. Stolen / Gone: 2006MY Supercharged LPG Autobiography - Zambezi Silver with Sand/Jet/Jet Oxford Leather.....
