Well, clearly I'd missed those documents!

Perhaps naviely I was just applying the same logic as for household light bulbs - i.e. 100w is brighter than a 60w etc.

Anyway, crisis averted and the proper bulbs are back in there now...

even household light enclosures have wattage limits on them....glad its all sorted anyways. Thumbs Up ... - .- -.

Picking up on this thread agin. Any progress re. replacement cornering lights. Ie running a bulb lower the 100w.?
This I presume will not offer a 6k light and will require ballasts etc
Cheers

hi, just reading about better bulbs here. -very interesting......

I have a 2002 vogue, (xenon).... and i have fitted a facelift 2006 front setup, and as such now have the newer 2006 with xenon dipped beams. (old headlights were falling to pieces, so went the upgrade route)
i have two questions. 1. from wiring up the new lights i have the plug that went to the old ballast area left over, but all my new lights work fine. i may be able to pre-answer by guessing my newer lights are not adaptive??. 2. if i look at at my newer sidelight, i have a push in bulb in the outer edge of the sidelight, and a chromed reflector, 'in the middle' it looks like a bulb, but it isn't. what is this please. and what is a cornering light please. (adaptive?)

p.s liking the main beam LED bulbs in theis posting, will give those a try...

Cornering lights - is that something that's applicable to my 2007 ? Geoff

They're in the sidelights and illuminate whenever your steering wheel goes beyond 70 degrees.

And they're fitted to 2007 model-year and onwards facelift models. Si. <This is my name.

Wonder if the melted light syndrome that afflicted the headlight units on some cars (allegedly more so on pre 2006 MY facelift) and which I was told by a LR MD Tech is a 'known problem' is actually down to some people having used the wrong bulbs?

i kinda think peeps are putting in 55w bulbs instead of the 35w ones, might be wrong but this seems the obvious reason.. ... - .- -.

AFS - Adaptive Front lighting System is a combination of dipped and main beam headlights which swivel horizontally to enhance your view around corners. (Cornering lamps).

There is a distinctive startup pattern when you turn on the ignition, where the headlight beams self-calibrate by moving through a horizontal and vertical axis. (Imagine your FF going cross-eyed temporarily)

The AFS system also uses 'Static Bending Lamps', these are the bulbs mounted in the outer edge of the headlamp enclosure. They area mounted at 45 degrees outwards to the left and right of the centre line of the car. At certain speeds they illuminate with input from the Steering angle to add extra light, for instance when turning into driveways or side roads.

The user manual quotes speeds and conditions they work at.

They are pretty effective in streets with minimal street lighting.

I still don't know which bulb would be suitable but thought the above may help identify the components of the system. Idea
