Not a good sign if it has oil in. Prob head gasket. You should top up with fresh coolant and inspect for leaks. Check that there is no water in the oil(looks like mayonaise in the oil cap). My Previous RR's!

Hi

When you say your header tank has oil in it, what do you mean? Is there a sheen, like oil on a puddle, multicoloured or are you saying the header tank is full of black oil?

I have actually witnessed my neighbour topping up the oil on her car and as I approached, she was smiling smugly that she was able to do it herself, fine until I pointed out she was filling the header tank!

A little extra detail may help us diagnose a bit better for you, head gaskets most commonly reveal themselves with overheating as has been said, all the gasses combusting in the bores escape into the water jacket and heat up the coolant, water also tends to work its way into the oil causing emulsification as bluearmy says, that is normally more common than clear oil in the sump and oil in the water.

Let us know more details!

Mat

Well, if your dipstick is clean and the oil level hasn't dropped then it is entirely possible that your oil cooler is to blame, I haven't worked on a L322 so can't give you specifics on the gearbox level I'm afraid, I'm sure someone will be along to help you soon. I know some are sealed so there is likely to be a level bung half way up the casing but I'm just guessing.

Good luck!

Ebajema has had issues recently of this nature. Might be worth a PM to him for advice. This thread mentions the work he did
