Hybrid TV Tuner

I've just bought a hybrid TV tuner (BMW part) and when I plug it in to the system it doesnt appear to recognised - option on menu goes grey, whereas the original still shows white and will scan etc but just doesnt pick up any channels. I have navcoder and when I try and read the codes its comes up saying 'timeout check connections or switch device on' I know connection is ok as I've activated the voice recognition with it. Have I been sold a dud as it should just be a straight plug and play? Any thoughts appreciated. One thing when I initially connect up the new unit there is a short spell of whirring noise and then goes quiet.

Thanks

S

(from PM)

Hi mate.

I was lucky with mine, as I talked the dealer I bought my car off to let me swap it with a unit from an X5 he had for sale. Mine was a straight swap, but I did have an initial period where the screen went blank when I plugged the TV unit in. The connections weren't making properly. Pushed down a bit harder and all was good.

If Television is greyed out, it cannot be seen on the ibus, which is also why Navcoder can't see it.

Not 100% sure if the fan runs all the time. Definately does on initial power up.

You can set stuff up with Navcoder, but as you say, you ain't gonna get that far, as the unit cannot be identified on the ibus.

Until Television is white and selectable I'd imagine navcoder isn't gonna see it.

I'm not an expert though - perhaps you can connect to it directly ?

Is there much info on the BMW forums ?

The connections will be detailed in RAVE if you've downloaded that from the Wiki area, but you may not want to start with that, in case the seller says you've damaged it........

Other than wobbling the connections about, swapping the unit for another one just as a fault finding exercise (if you can borrow one from a BMW) or sending the unit back to Latvia I'm not sure what other options you have.

Perhaps Latvia man can detail exactly what he expects needs to be "programmed" into it ?

Let us know how you get on.

TV finally working.............. it was a dud unit from the supplier in Latvia, credit where credit is due, true to his word I returned the faulty unit and he sent me a replacment without any problem. Signal not great at home, but so far it appears to be working as it should, previous one did absolutely nothing.
