Brake refurb on supercharger

I am in the middle of replacing discs pads etc on my 4.2S/C and decided that I would try and smarten things up by painting the disc hubs and edges and the rear calipers. Dan from Duckworths supplied the discs which come ready primed and prepared for top coat, once the brake surface is masked.

There is some useful guidance from other forum members on caliper painting which I have followed and all the gear is ready to screw back onto the car, having cleaned the calipers up with wire brush drill bits, followed by degreaser, caliper primer, paint and lacquer fom eBay. However, in a moment of vanity, I decided to put some Range Rover decals on the calipers. These are not that easy to find, but for anyone who is interested, I sourced some from the following link.

http://www.graphicshack.co.uk/range-rover-decal-sticker-828-p.asp

There are other firms who will make them to order and to your own design which was a surprise to me. For example:

I hope this is useful.

I find this all a bit fluffy and still can not believe I have spent time on it, but the result is good and the calipers look as though they are cared for!

Finished replacenent of rear brakes today. New discs, pads, clips, bolts etc.

Disc hubs and vents all painted and calipers cleaned up and painted with caliper paint.

The clean up was time consuming, but the biggest pain was trying to get the discs off as I could not slacken the handbrake. Eventually got on off, but on the other I found one shoe to be siezed to the drum so big hammers and prybars needed: a highrisk strategy. I usually replace everything when I take things tobits but decided to ignore the handbrake shoes whrn planning the job and now I regret being so lazy.

Everything else a piece of cake.

As for the caliper decals, they did not fit, so still in the cupboard. They are not really my scene but I bought them during a middle age crisis. The main thing is all that rust and crap is off the clipers now and a bit of paint will protect them for a few years more.

Incidentally, pistons very easy to compress with a bit of wood and g-clamp which is a great shame as I fancied one of those fancy piston compression kits in a red box shown in another thread.

I used high temp calliper paint which covered very easily and helped get paint into the internal vents on the new discs. Deliberately left faces of disc hub clear of paint.
