I reviewed them as the alternative to the FFRR and apart from the 2004 models they seem very reliable. I went together with a friend to the Porsche dealer in Geneva as he was considering one and had a good look. They are very nice in a different way than the FFRRs. Another friend of mine has a Turbo S and the acceleration is staggering while the drive experience is very "tight" and sports car like.

The Cayenne is about the only nonLR 4x4 I'd consider. If you're just after the high driving position, the SUV look and maybe a bit of snow - great car! If you need to get over anything more challenging than a nicely graded gravel road, look elsewhere. |

^ Cayenne would need decent tyres for snow... Mine had road tyres and 340bhp spinning all 4 wheels left me No better off |

A friend has a "Top of Range" 2011 and we both drove to Fort William & back via Snowden (Three Peaks) and I simply could not keep up with him on the Motorway or B Roads and I was in a great 3.6 TDV8....

Looked at one, never sat in one but ordered a Cayenne S V8 Diesel and expecting delivery in October. My Westminster is great to drive and no problems but the dealership put me off the thought of going back for a service or warranty work if required.

Beware of the Main Dealer service departments. They are well known for "over exaggerating" things that need replaced when the don't, on the basis that "it's a sports car, sir and you don't want to take any chances". Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

It's because of the main dealer that I am moving away from Land Rover, on the basis that one who does unnecessary work is better than one who does bad work.

They're basically the sort of summer tyres you'd expect to see on a big, fast saloon - no concession in terms of tread design to being on a 4x4. Think you can specify an all-season tyre for free; how much more useful that is I don't know. Very different car from a Range Rover. |

As most of my driving is motorway, I will be test driving the Cayenne S Diesel before I decide on the L405. Only problem, I'll have to keep my eyes closed until I'm inside as it's got an ugly face....
