In car VENTURE CAM

Right just changed the batteries in the cam unit it never worked when I got the car as it was totally flat.
Now I can get the hand unit to light up and flash and also get the red lights on it to light up, But when I try to get it up on screen in the car I just get a black screen on the cam part, I can get the schematics up ok to tell me what the car is doing.
Have I got to reset anything in the car to get it to work its the right unit that has always been with the car.
