2018 Range Rover SVAutobiography 5.0 SC V8 Santorini Black
L494 Sport is awesome...

Never thought I'd say this but the L494 Sport is amazing. Admittedly my only experience of it is in a £90k + vehicle fitted with the 5.0 supercharged engine in Autobiography Dynamic trim.

Key points:

- I would argue body roll is undetectable - especially in Dynamic mode
- The vehicle is really fun to drive, whilst still being relaxing and whisper quiet when cruising
- The startup sound and exhaust note are incredible - I wonder if the L405 Supercharged is the same?
- The cabin is not the same standard as the L405 - plasticky in places although leaps ahead of the old Sport
- Rear legroom is too tight
- The boot parcel shelf isn't great quality

So, now I need what the best choice is:

- Buy a fully specced L494 Autobiography Dynamic Supercharged that costs £90k +
- Buy a L405 Autobiography Supercharged that costs £110k
- Buy a L405 Autobiography SDV8 that costs just over £100k

A very nice 'problem' to have but I cannot believe how amazing the new Sport is. Next step would be to drive a L405 Supercharged as I have only driven the SDV8 version.

Buy my Td6 for the same price, knowing that you have made the best choice of all.......

Seriously though, I'd have a drive of them all.

Will the dealer not lend you one for the weekend or something like that, so you can have an extended test drive or such like ?

Its a lot of money to be spending and end up wishing you'd made another choice.......

Suppose both cars are different enough from your current car for you to "make the move" as it were.

Good luck whatever you decide.

The new Sport does look nice though.

i find the new sport rather firm as an understatement , it's a great dynamic drive but is it a sports car ( sounds like an Aston or an XKRs, or GT or a Range Rover ! Far to many gone...

I parked my L405 next to the New Sport yesterday at the dealer. The Sport is sure worthy of the Range Rover badge. Just a bit sleeker and smaller than it's big brother. I am still glad I got the FF instead, once you've gone FF you can't go back if you like the room and the comfort there is nothing that beats a FF. RR's that are part of my car timeline since I bought my first RR Classic in 1999:

If you can afford the extra 20k then IMHO I would go for the FF any day. Even just for the Clarkson reason of " one day you'll be at the lights in the sport and a FF will park next to you".

That being said the new sport does look just like a squashed L405 to me. And I'd have one if I could justify it. But if I had the envious problem that you do, FFRR with the biggest petrol engine money could buy Very Happy Bushy

Having driven it fully laden today for many hours, I can safely say the FFRR will be the way to go. The quality of the materials on the Sport aren't really where they should be for £90k.

Examples:

- The dash is leatherette a la evoque
- The seat leather quality is a far cry from the L405
- The steering wheel is thin and the leather isn't as soft
- The seat backs are plastic


The handling is phenomenal at the sacrifice of ride comfort (it is much harsher).

L405 SDV8 Autobiography for me I think!

I think the new sport is a fantastic car. I loved the speed of the diesel, the ride, the gearbox, comfort... I would have one. Previously..

It all comes down to affordability for me. The new rr here starts at 140k with the sport starting at 80 ish tbc . My max budget will be about 52 k euro so second hand sport looks way to go for me. If only I lived in the UK Big Cry Present :2008 TDV8 HSE

It´s a tough one...... I´ve always had FFRR but now have a MY12 sport and its time to change.... so I have the same
dilemma in the opposite direction.....

The new RRS looks great... is a leap forward in every aspect so the gap between RRS and FF is nowhere near as significant as it once was....

Conversely ... the quality of the fit out in the FF is far superior.... as is the loadspace....


Couldn´t give a hoot if a FF pulls up next to my sport..... (if I get one)

Once i´ve driven both next week...... one of them is ( I hope) going to scream out at me... BUY ME NOW !!....decision made

Albeit im driving a RRS 3.0 SDV6 and a FFRR4.4 V8

LR have also just issued a press release for the 4.4 V8 RRS.....
