If I'm not mistaken, you can pull the fuse on the SRS system and the SRS light will go out.
You can then present your car for a re-test and it will not be failed for this item, you will only have an advisory that the SRS light doesn't function.
ie to pass an MOT the light either has to function correctly or not be on all. Rolling Eyes
If you do pull the fuse you will appreciate the SRS system will not be operative ie no airbags, but at least you will have the choice of using the car.
No worse than at present as the SRS light was permanently on the SRS system was in-operative anyway.
Can't help as to why the light is on I'm afraid.

It will be a short with the connection to one of the airbags. had this with my son's Disco. The offending connection was under the passenger seat.
