19" Tyre Options- any other than 255/55R19?

After picking up my new 19" wheels from n1cktdv8 (thanks!) I'm looking to pick up some good value winter tyres with at least a couple of winter's tread (6mm minimum). I've been keeping my ear to the ground but nothing much available.

I'm aware that 255/55R19 appears to be almost unique to FFRR and so they're not as common as some other sizes (like the 255/50R19's I've just sold with my Cayenne winter wheels). I was wondering if any other size tyres can be safely used on winter rims without any wheel arch, speedo, handling or safety issues? This might allow be to cast my net a little wider!

Any advice would be appreciated...

Guernsey

255/50R19's could be used (lower profile) but thing to watch is the load rating value, not sure what is needed on the FFRR, but RRS tyres are not rated higher enough for Discoveries.

In an all terrain tyre General Grabber AT and Goodyear Duratracs are the only options now though the duratracs have only an S speed rating up to 112 mph Looking right now for the FFRR ultimate upgrade

Thanks for that Les Pes. I've just sold some 255 50 19 winter tyres that we ran on the Cayenne. I think as you mentioned, the load rating wouldn't have been hight enough. Speed rating was ok though!

I'll keep searching...
