hi all, I consider myself to be a pretty clued up guy as I am a mechanical engineer, but I am confused today. earlier in the year and only about 3000miles ago, I changed the front discs and pads front and rear on the FFRR.

over the past few weeks I have had a vibration on braking above 50mph and it has got steadily worse. I presumed that I had a warped disc which I am annoyed about, but understand things happen.

So I bought a new set of discs yesterday and went to fit them this morning. Well after huffing and puffing for about 20 mins and using all the tools and tricks at my disposal at home, I couldn't crack the caliper bolts, so decided to leave it and do the job at work. before I put the wheels back on I checked the disc securing/locating screws and the near side one was about half a turn loose. I tightened it up with the allen key and put the wheel back on. then went for a drive for a few miles to check everything and no matter how fast I drove or how hard I braked, not so much as a vibration!!

Surely the little allen bolt didn't stop the vibrations as the wheel studs pull everything up even if the allen bolt wasn't fitted.
has anyone got any ideas as to what is going on???

just wondering if taking the wheels off/on resulted in the vibration disappearing, maybe they were not seated properly?... ... - .- -.

I think you might have been lucky just by putting the wheel on in a different position.
I never tighten the allen bolts anyway then at least I can get them out when I want to.

i haven't got a clue what is going on!! my mate runs a garage and he balanced the wheels for me last week, just for somewhere to start. the allen bolts are only just nipped up, not over tight. as you say maybe just taking the wheel off and replacing in a different position has done the trick. I will know for sure after my trip to work tomorrow, nearly 80 miles round trip, that should be far enough to let me know if anything is wrong.

all in all it's a mystery to me, just hope my friendly L/R dealer will take the discs back if all is well!! Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

just to ask another question with regards to my vibration. I noticed over the last couple of days that it seems to be doing it again, although no way near as violent as before, more of an irritation than anything. Could tyres be an issue in this situation?

Although my tyres are perfectly legal there is probably just by looking, only 3.5 to 4 mm of tread depth left. Could that upset things in any way?
