Using IIDTool Pro BT to Read Transmission Temperature

Hello Everyone,

There was a post on Jun 14, 2013:

transmission oil temperature:
Need to get idea of temp of new oil in Gm box as part of refilling process. Have an IIDTool but can't see anything for getting a reading. Is there a neat way of establishing when oil is at right temp?

I didn't find any responses.

How accurate is the Transmission temperature reading on an iPad/Android display or RR display?
When I change my Transmission filter/oil, the temperature has to be read at a specific point for expansion purposes. I want to be able to use the display (s) reading vs using an IR Thermal gun temp readings. Land Rover dealerships use the T4 to measure temp, so in theroy, the IIDToolPro BT should do the same, correct?

Thanks

Hi bluerr, lidl are selling one of those infrared temperature probs. You just point the beam at where you want to check the temp and it it comes up in an led readout. Only £17.99. Traded in my Audi TT 225 for my Range Rover TD6 Autobiography in Java Black. Range Rover now sold.

Hi blue,
We read off the same sensors that the T4 does, so the accuracy is the same as the dealers get.

While I really don't expect that you need to be accurate down to the degree, I have read (somewhere) that using an IR thermometer gave a reading that was considerably different than the reading on a diagnostic system. Then again, I've done ATF changes using an IR thermometer...
