Have just got to my car (misses was driving it) she said all of the sudden the steering just went as if the car wasn't on and the battery light is on.

I turned the car back on when I got here and it's still all the same but then the coolant temperature notification came up!

Any ideas what this could be?

I had the exact same symptoms on my Discovery and it was a failed alternator. Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

Kuga did exactly the same this morning...at 80mph! Lost power steering and dashboard lit up like Xmas tree. Limped to safe place to stop, turned off engine and battery totally flat. Was only reading 0.6V when the AA put the meter on it.

in garage now, but 99% certain its the alternator fried..bloody things had more issues in the last year than the FF did in 2 years of ownership! '08 Audi S6 Avant 5.2 V10 with Milltek non-resonated. Vrrrrrrmmmmmph

Very straight forward.

RAC man has been and gone. I told them the belt had come off and shredded but they still send a poxy van. Now waiting for the tow truck.
He also said the water pump is seized? Is this likely?

I am taking it to one of my dealers I work for to get them to do it. As soon as it's fixed, I'm selling it. Too much of a risk with my baby in the car (the misses too I suppose)

Water pump may have seized, this could cause the belt to snap.
Once fixed should last for many more years, if the rest of the car is good then I'd keep it.
I deal in collisions and there is no substitute for size when it comes to road safety. I'd put my family in the FF over most vehicles any day if the week.

Dont be hasty Rich, belt failure can occur in any vehicle, I think once you establish the cause you would be very very unlucky to ever be in this situation again.
