Ignition

Hi guys in need of some urgent help,,
I was stuck in tesco 2weeks ago with the range rover the key wouldnt turn in the ignition,,
Rang AA guy turned up remove ignition barrel cut it open car still wouldnt turn over or start managed to get the car into neutral and recovered me home,,
Now ordered new barrel and black box behind it,
Fitted barrel into the black holder plugged it all into the car all the electric plugs etc,,
Key will not turn at all!! Brand new parts from landrover at serious cost
Totaly lost what to try next???
The battery is full charged the steering lock disengages,,
If i connect the old rear ignition the one with the big white plug in then turn it with a screwdriver the ignition lights come on and last click car wont turn over
Just what is stopping the car from starting even with the immobilizer ring on it?
The new part wont turn the key at all should it be able to without being plugged in?
Im at a total loss now anyone got a match??
Any help much appreciated

Has the barrel been built for your key ?

Or is it a generic one? Ian

The barrel has been ordered from bmw Germany from the chassis number of my car the black part with the locking solenoid on has been ordered from land rover,
When the barrel was seperate i could turn the key no problems, and the black part i could turn from
Position 0,II,III,,start no issues as soon as i put it together it wont turn at all, does this have to be electrically powered too turn now the two parts are together?
And how do you remove the barrel from the black plastic part as i dont want too destroy the new parts?

I've not had one to pieces, sounds like something's not HP when they went together. Perhaps CTC might have more experience ? Ian

Hi

If my Range has a flatish Battery my ign key wont turn ,so i assume that your Barrell has to be powered up for it to turn.

Hope that helps.

Cheers Piers

Has anyone got his email or contact address please?
I have tried the battery again and its showing 12.7 volts
But even if you plug all the new parts together it still wont let you turn the key
Its as though no signal is going to the solenoid to let you turn the key,
If you use the rear of the old ignition and the new barrel and black part together with the immobilizer ring around it i can get all ignition lights on steering wheel releases
Turn key too final position car wont start at all,,
Seriously pain in the arse now stan been at this 3weeks now and still no further
