TD6 - Run engine with glow plug connector/s off ?

Just in case I Censored something up when i set to work removing glow plugs, apart from taking longer to start (I only have two working anyway) If I have the others unplugged, at the head (glow plug still in place, of course), will this cause any other problems? .

I don't think it will cause any damage as mine has one snapped off and has been like that for as long as I have had it and who knows how long before all that was done with mine was they taped up the connector so it didn't short out.

Temperatures we get in the UK don't really require the use of glow plugs. In all the time I've owned my FFRR I've used the glow plugs less than a dozen times and that was when the temperature dropped to -17C

Come now Joh, yours lives in a HEATED car house so thats not really fair Wink

Also the glowplugs help with cleaner burning of the fuel as well while the engine is cold as they run on after the engine is started Wink FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

John, how do you "not use" them, just by ignoring the preheat stage?

If one unplugs the relay connector, will car still start and run ?

My only concern is if they do work after the engine is running, for how long etc etc. I can cope with faults due to no connection, but don't want to Censored anything up. .

Your engine would run how, just not as smoothly though I doubt you'd notice much difference after a few seconds if you only have two working ones left! The initial starting from stone cold in the morning and the evening will take a bit more cranking than normal so make sure your battery is in good health Smile bar that just let it idle while you get yourself belted in and all your stuff sorted and then drive off as normal Smile may be a bit sluggish initially but should soon pick up. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

I've been running diesel engined vehicles for over 15 years now and never use glow plugs unless it's colder than -10c. No point as diesel nowadays comes with anti waxing agents which stop it waxing in the cold weather and it is the waxing that causes the cold starting problems

I just insert the key and immediately turn the starter motor, as I said the only time I ever used them was 2010-2011 when we had the really cold snap. For all I know mine maybe don't even work Laughing Laughing

The glow plugs only run for a few seconds after starting so the clean burning theory is cack Whistle

Don't know if unplugging the relay will throw up any faults or not, why not just leave it plugged in, won't do any harm that way
