Spain touring and light off-roading

Anybody got any route recommendations for a leisurely route with a mixture of hotels campsites and some non damaging off road?

Took my old classic, wife and two kids to the Picos de Europa several years ago. Overnight ferry to Santander then a couple of hours up in to the mountains. Stayed at the Refugio de Aliva - an old mountain hut converted in to a small hotel. Only accessible by 4x4. They run a Land Rover taxi service to the top of a nearby cable car. Great walks and great off roading. All tracks. On the way back stayed near the coast for a couple of nights before ferry back to Blighty.

Long time ago but a few points I remember: From Santander head for Fuente De but turn off before on to the track out of Espinama up to the Refugio de Aliva.

This site gives you directions to walk from Espinama but the walk is on the 4x4 trail so directions are the same. www.topwalks.net/en/picos_europa/espinama_cable.htm

Google searches will give you everything you need to know. Cantabria is the region. I was lent a hardcopy map which I had to return but I'm sure it will be possible to find one - not UK mapping standards but good enough. Even Google Earth has most of the tracks. Coming back we stayed in Santillana Del Mar near Santander. Good camp sites around there. Good luck![/url] 2012 5.0L S/C
