Since RR's are used by many to tow their caravans, and I have never done this, nor want to, I thought I'd ask a related question here.

I've seen a great deal on a Campervan weekly rental. Just a small 3 berth for me and wife. Just for a change I thought it'd be a good idea to take one for a week tour around the UK etc.

My dilemma is this - where does one park up to sleep overnight ? Is it that you have to book into some camp/caravan site? Do you have to book each night in advance? How much does this cost? Or should I fill up the car and do the same but stop at B&B's on the way ? The cost of campervan rental, camp site fees and fuel etc just seems to make it an expensive and 'not-so-comfortable' alternative to B&B's and hotels.  RR Sport Supercharged Vesuvius Orange 4.2 V8 First edition

It is illegal to camp "at the side of the road" so camsites are preferable.......

Check out ukcampsite.co.uk for sites in the area you want to go, good honest reciews there too. Expect to pay between £10 -£25 per night depending on the amount of facilities on site. Basic water only sites are cheaper but really that is pretty basic camping.

On site showers/toilets are better, and an electric hook up is advisable. But there are all singing and dancing sites with lovely facilities out there and if you want to avoid kids then look for adults only sites for a bit of P and Q.

Not so comfortable? Or more comfortable? That depends on your viewpoint.

As above, ukcampsite.co.uk is a good start. But for me the whole caravan/camping scene is about a lot of things which may or may not be the same for you.
1. No "Time" for breakfast. It's as early or late as I decide I want to get up.
2. My Dogs are always welcome.
3. My bed is my own and hasn't had a gazillion other people sleeping in it.
4. Guesthouses are run by people who may or may not meet with my standards. My caravan is run by me.
5. No evening meal comes close to home cooking
6. Campsites are rarely in noisy drunken town centres.
7. If you're a sociable sort there's always someone who'll chat to you on a campsite. Try knowcking the door of "Room 6" for a gass and check the response.

It's all very personal and you either like it or you don't. There isn't a lot of middle ground in general but suffice to say I love it. It's worth a try, even if only to find out 100% that you don't like it; at least you'll know.

There's a great book called BritStops, which I've just bought, that details pre-approved free motorhome stopovers at places such as pubs, marinas, etc.

The idea is you contribute in some way to whatever is nearby.. So, for instance, you buy a few beers in the pub.
