Son and heir is about to take his driving test and needs a runabout to get him to and from sixthform.
He only has a little Saturday job so it needs an ultra cheap to buy and insure anybody have any experience as most online insurance enquiries only throw up recent cars which are outside his budget?
I have looked at, Punto's, Ka's, clios's etc

Hey Andy

I went with A-Plan as they were the cheapest by far and you get free legal cover for being a member of the forum Thumbs Up

They were £500.00 cheaper than my original insurer Bow down

Bought my kids an old Nissan Micra. It was one of the cheapest to insure, reliable and not too small and flimsy so driver /passengers might actually survive a crash. Won't do his street cred any favours but beggars can't be choosers. 2006 4.4 V8 Vogue SE

Get him something slow.

Nothing larger than 1.0L, old cars are not necessarily cheaper to insure unless they are really old and you can get classic.

Something he can work on himself is always a good idea as it will teach him the basics of maintenance, how about a daewoo matiz..... Cheap as chips and small engine, slow and not cool! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I read recently that if you add a parent as an additional driver , it actually brought the premium down.

These "black box" things are also supposed to help?
Whats the budget?

My first car was a '74 beetle. Thumbs Up I'd be interested to know how classic cars
are on insurance for a new driver.
I'll ask my mate, he owns his own insurance brokers. Alcohol and eBay is never a good mix

A mate of mine is a very, very clever bloke, always looking for an angle....
Anyway, last year for his son's 16th birthday he bought him a Fiat 500 abarth as his soon to be first car. Registered it in his son's name and then phoned up to insure it. He argued that as he was 16 he was a no risk policy holder as it was illegal for him to drive and got fully comp insurance for about £300 per year. Then, when he turned 17 and passed his test he phoned up and changed the policy to allow him it drive the car. The increase was about £100 per year.
He said that it was a matter of beating the automated insurance algorithms and that a change of policy for age correction is totally different to starting a new policy for a 17 year old.
Fully comp on a £30k car at 17 for about £400........
I have to hold my hands up..... And that's why he's multiple millionaire businessman and I'm not. Regards
Mark

Now thats crafty..... Fire and theft only possibly, a kind of storage policy for a vehicle off the road. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
