LOL I have a 2 year old and I'm always worrying about what might happen in the case of a major 'spillage' to my perforated Vogue SE leather seats - could be nasty!!

Chap at work had a GL - nice vehicle and it is bigger than a FF 2007 Zermatt Silver TDV8 Vogue SE - now sold but was a great car!

I find this the best solution for transporting the kids

Q5 is no where near as big as a range rover, surely the equivelant is the q7… big on the outside small inside.

Disco is a good option, and you have the fold down poo shelf on the back for rapid nappy changes.

Never found wanting for more space in either a 5 or ffrr. But i dont have a dog!
After mch deliberating we worked out that the principle was just to take less stuff! Or get a trailer! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I've just returned from a trip to France with two dogs the missus and the oldest who is 18. I had plenty space in the full fat

Luggage was strapped into one third of the boot space using the full height, dogs had the other two thirds which was plenty for my German Shepherd and pointer.

It was a 1090 mile trip each way, no issues. You could get a dog cage that is two thirds and have full height of the other third or even drop one split seat. Are you taking half the house with you?  09 TDV8 Westminster, Mariana Black, Rear seat entertainment, hatch bag and 2 slobbery mutts

I put 4 pairs of skis and 4 snowboards on the roof an can comfortably get a board, a set of skis and gear for 5 inside - that's 10 pairs of boots - and 10 sets of clothing coz you can't board in ski clothes plus helmets and everything else we need

I'm planning to get a decent but not overly big dog box when we move back to NZ. That way we have the max boot space available with a dog still fitting in safely and nicely (and no splatter all over after the daily beach trips).

Not that we have the dog yet but it will be a "medium sized mutt" since we don't like small dogs (we've had two ourselves in the past and are babysitting two for some two months at the moment).

Although Vorbis idea is quite practical as well, just make sure they have some old towels so the sick can soak up a bit before you reach the next carwash with pressure washer where you can hose them uhhhhh the box down.

We had our youngest projectile vomit some lovely yoghurt at Cape D'Agulhas, actually the entire container but since it was inside a BMW 3 series rental with leather upholstery it wasn't a problem. Plenty of wet wipes and washable car seat covers and all was fine.

When we traveled through Europe and SA in cars like the Nissan X-trail and Volvo X-60, they were always filled to the brim, without a dog but including car seat for the youngest and stroller as well and (my wife insists on it) massive suitcases to keep her stuff separate from the kids and mine (I have a small travel bag, who needs more then 3 undies and 2 T-shirt on vacation). Luckily she did learn to travel light when I had to be rushed out of Nigeria for emergency surgery, 3 weeks in a single suitcase is possible but that is completely beside the point (although I love reminding her of that incredible feat of packing on her side).

I would say with one kid, a not too big dog box, a FFRR (with the upper cargo net of course !!!) should be no issue for me to go on another of these one month trips we used to do. And we learned how to pack in such a way that we could pick up stuff along the way.

My point is, don't get something else, see if you can/make a decent dog box, install a cargo net, buy a 5.0 SC and forget about those horrible looking Mercs. If you want something with more space, go for the Vito/Transporter. One of our good friends has the Vito (two kids and a building company) and it is perfect for the combo kids and massive storage space. Plus very comfy to drive, even long distance (they live in SA).

And keep the FFRR on the side of course  MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Did I miss something... not enough space,,, You must be like my cousin who managed to fill a people carrier to go away 'for the night' with one small child.

We on the other hand took four adults, one child, luggage for five for two weeks in France a few years back
and still got all the luggage under the boot cover in an RRS and that's smaller. We did put all the shoes under
the rear bench seats to be fair.

Chop a RR in for a GL blimey aren't they built in Alabama for the brash yank market, to compete with the Chevy Suburban and similar American SUV's. It might be a really good vehicle but not in the same class as a RR.

4 of us and 3 dogs can go on holiday in a RR using a suitable dog box / luggage divider. LR used to do one which linked up with their dog guard 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17
