Wales 2006 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Bonatti Grey

Well, at last we seem to be making progress Very Happy

Having told me last week that it definitely wasn't the ignition switch, and asking permission to strip the dash to check the fuseboard / wiring, they then hit a brick wall and had to consult the factory. Banging Head

However, got a 'phone call today to say that having consulted the factory, and done some further testing, it IS the ignition switch after all Very Happy

So, at least not an ECU at £k (the switch is £220 + VAT)

BUT I don't yet know what their labour bill is going to be Big Cry (wonder if i'd have been better sending it to a main stealer, as they may have got to the bottom of it more quickly)? Banging Head

Also, my personal thoughts from the start were ignition switch related, as that was the only thing that had changed between it running and deciding to do nothing Whistle

Still, we live and learn - hopefully i should have it back for the weekend Very Happy

(had to hire a Fiat 500 last weekend Big Cry - there really is nothing that will fit the bill once you have driven a FF !!) Very Happy Thumbs Up 2006 (56 Reg) 4.4 V8 Vogue In Bonatti Grey (Gorgeous!!)

the cynical readers, may have thought that it WAS the battery, after the repairer fiddled/replaced the ign switch. as you seemed to need 'both' for the repair.....

I might have gone down the road, (literally, in the Fiat,) and fetched a £100 battery to 'discount' the guesswork, and give the car a 'perk up' for a few years. and its last chance before going to a 'mystery workshop'....
but this is using hindsight...
but readers of the forum, may see this in years to come.

I had a similar issue several years ago on an 06MY it was the ignition switch - £300 odd at mainagent sorted it

Blimey and you were charged over £800 - and mine was done by a mainagent - they didn't need to spend much time on the diagnostics as they knew what they were doing Thumbs Up 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

Unfortunately, when faced with a dead car needing recovery, decisions have to be taken quickly, and you don't have all the options you may want. Big Cry

Agree that a main dealer probably would have diagnosed a lot quicker, but wasn't able to find one who could / was prepared to look at the car within most of North Wales!! Big Cry

@johnboyairey, if you have read the whole thread, you will see that the battery was discounted right at the start by the garage guy the AA sent to attend.

The people who repaired it were an approved land Rover / Range Rover repair centre, but not a main dealer.

Hopefully, the post may help someone avoid this amount of pain / expense in future Thumbs Up 2006 (56 Reg) 4.4 V8 Vogue In Bonatti Grey (Gorgeous!!)
