Gearbox issue

Had car back a week but got a vibration at around 1800rpm and you can feel it through the floor and car, you can do it in gear with brake on as well which makes me think it's the torque converter out of balance a bit, any thoughts before I go back he's a good chap so no probs but just like a little ammo thanks _____________________________________________________

Shocked Now that's a good price, I've seen threads of gearbox/ torque converter changes up to 3k!
What mileage did the original one do before problems started? If it dont work.......burn it!

If the IId tool cant fix it.......burn the FF.

If the FF cant be fixed......buy a Land Cruiser!

If the LC cant be fixed..............................................BUY a horse !!

It may be worth emphasising that there’s a huge difference between a transmission rebuild and just replacing the torque converter. There’s no need to open up the transmission to replace the torque converter and therefore no specialist knowledge is required - any competent mechanic should be able to do it. The book time for the whole job is around 5 hours. Once the transmission is on the floor the torque converter simply slides off its splines and the new one slides on in its place – a very quick swap. A (high quality) remanufactured torque converter costs around the £250 mark.

Clearly the transmission fluid would have to be replaced at the same time, and it’s a good opportunity to replace the filter too. When I had mine done (ZF not GM) the total cost would have been under £700 (workshop rate was around £55/hour) but I also had to have the oil cooler pipes replaced (due to corrosion) which added another £100 or so to the bill.

140k it was on and took him 5days it was the splines that were stripped on a few gears so the whole kaboodle was changed including solenoids Wink I've known him 20 years and sent many boxes to him when we had the car pitch and always been good and fair. _____________________________________________________
