Not sure about disconnecting battery but would advise that you wait for all of the units in the boot to shut down before unplugging any of them

It should be a straight swap for the old analogue unit. There's a couple of threads about mounting the new hybrid unit, as some people prefer to keep the old analogue units in place. They use velcro to fix the new unit alongside the old one. I removed the old analogue unit (it can be a bit faffly to remove the brackets to get the old kit out) and refitted the new hybrid unit in its place. Don't need to disconnect battery, but do leave all the electronics to 'go to sleep', just to be on the safe side.
