There is a habit of thinking it's about Salmond or SNP, It's not. It's about a country that is looking at the future of a Union that many think is unfair or is not in its best interest. It is also not England versus Scotland, that old rhetoric is outdated , yes there may be a few morons who spout it but no less than there is an EDL. Salmond does not become PM, President or king in fact what he becomes is retired, by his own admission. He would be part of a cross party team negotiating the details but the Act would not take place until 2016 and he will be retiring. Scotland would elect a new govt based on what it saw as the preferred party. We shall see soon enough, either way there is no apocalypse and life will go on. Many countries look on with respect as our countries debate independence without shedding blood, in itself showing how times have changed 09 TDV8 Westminster, Mariana Black, Rear seat entertainment, hatch bag and 2 slobbery mutts |

VERY true. The fact that this can be decided without bloodshed is a great example to the world.

Seems Deutsche Bank are not at all convinced by Mr Slamond's arguments and believe an independent Scotland will quickly enter an economic tailspin

The one thing that strikes me, is that Westminster seem very, very desperate to hold onto Scotland.

I was always an advocate for a third option in the vote - devo max, which is now what's being offered but this was deemed as "too complicated". Given that that's now what's on offer, perhaps in hindsight, it should have been an option in the actual vote. Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

Again, Westminster wouldn't allow the Devo Max option. They wanted a clear cut Yes/No on the ballot.

There was an article in the Gulf News here. You'd be amazed how much coverage this is getting here, which said that it was David Cameron who wanted to humiliate Alex Salmond in a no vote. I suspect you could be right that not giving a devo max option could well end up with him having to resign and have to call a snap general election.

They couldn't get Devo Max on the table because it required the backing of rUK public which they knew they wouldn't get. So it was binned. Quite right too I would understand rUK being worried Scotland was getting a better deal, but the truth is they don't and haven't up till now. They pay more per head and generate a higher revenue than they receive despite certain Westminster ploys to the contrary. Should Scotland get to vote on distinctly English matters? I'd say no. The union does not work and while there are promises to fix it they won't. Westminster are saying more powers if No vote but cannot and will not say what powers. This is because they do not have the mandate of the rUK public to give these alleged powers nor the legal capacity to do so. The truth is there are none, its back to more of the same in the event of No vote. edit - you realise after 18 Sept we're going to have to find a new 'hot topic' to discuss ![]() |

As before, why not look at the IFS's or Scottish Government's own figures (and don't use the SNP cheat of cherry picking a single specific historic year)? Tax contributions are not the same thing as public expenditure - Scotland ends up with something like £1250-1600 per head extra spending. That is fact, not SNP lies. Have you even heard of the Barnett Formula? Who do you think subsidises your free university places (which aren't available to the English) and free NHS subscriptions? |

Trommel, I was going to answer the Barnett formula question but a short and concise answer has already been put above. As for SNP lies, that's hilarious, what about Westminster lies?

Yes young shipbuilders have concerns, the world is full of uncertainty, either way. However a fact The new owner of Fergussons has already now employed more than those who lost jobs and is injecting massive capital into rejuvenation ship building. He's no idiot and not the kind to just throw his money off a cliff. 09 TDV8 Westminster, Mariana Black, Rear seat entertainment, hatch bag and 2 slobbery mutts |
